THURSDAY, OCT. 18, 1917 Get ready for paving the streets. o Land will never be any cheaper, comparatively speaking. o The safest way to avoid an abuse ol power is to be careful how it is be stowed. o The man who is always making debts and failing to pay them, is ; draw-back instead of a heln in an\ community. ' ** ^ <, , | Get ready to join the city water sup ply. No trouble now to dispose o! sewerage as soon as the new lines arc completed and at work. ?T 0 1 IT I ^ n^h is country intends to he carc fie how far it goes in forming alliancewith foreign countries at war witl Germany. It pays to go tire right | distance, but will mean ruin later perhaps to go too far. ' o M any a man has obtained an id--a from reading that lead him to great ; results entire'y different from thu j expected by the one who wrote the article. The human brain is a curious I and a powerful thing. What has become of the wonderfu' , Ir ish potato crops that we once heard I would be raised this year in ordinary ! barrels in the back yards of people hemes? If thev ever mfitr?ri:di'/nd ' they failed to roach the market. The burden on the country press just at this time exceeds anything j that ever happened in the history f the publication of country shoe':.. Each and every department of the government evidently realize- that this is a time in the history of America when the value of the country papers will shew itself. Not only the government itself, but each and eve y voluntary private association in th'land is evidently convinced that mu.-ii I of the success of this country in the groat conflict of swords depends upon the information sent broaden-1 by tin little country weeklies. A visit to any editorial desk of any country paper just now will show what we are inferring to. You will find articles from ' dozens of government departments. seeking publication on this or that;! bundles of copy in behalf of the Red, Cross society, the food administration, the council of defense, both national and State, and the countless other organizations who expect to get a fair showing in the free space that is being given out. And the little country papers, though their burdens are enough to make them grown, are coming to the scratch the best they can. and doing all that they can to satisfy the faith that at last is being placed in them. And one might wonder, as to where any material profit could ever come to them, by even the added sunport of business men and concerns in the way of business advertising that is taken and paid for. Indeed many of them are fully expecting to run at a dead loss in view* of the high cost of print paper, and the high price of everything that is used in the making 4>f the newspaper. NOTICE OF SALE.
