?X GERMANS RAIN BLOWS UPON BRITISH LINES British Artillery, Machine Gun and Rifle Fire Ereak Strong Assault f HAIG'S POSITION THREATENS RAILWAY French Repulse Three Efforts of Crown Prince's Forces in Argonne. Efforts to break into the new ground won by the British in the renewal of the Flanders offensive on Wednesday are being continued by the Germans. Failing to shako the British line anywho'e they tried it out last night at Zonnebeke, where the British have pushed far along the read to Rouler.s. The British artillery machine gun and rifle fire was too much for them, however, and the attack was broken up. Zonnebeke is an important point fo? the British and their previous efforts to reach and maintain a hold in it had been desperately resisted by the Gor mans. Their present position in the village places them within a half dozen miles of the impoitant north and south railway line connecting Lille with Ostend, on the coast, the cutting of which or its domination at ever medium range artillery fire would .seriously handicap the Germans in thenFlanders operations. In the Tower II em lets and Poly go weed legions, toward the British rigid flank, the clc-arhig up process whin, followed Wednesday 's battle was carried out further last night, and the Germans were driven from isolated positions to which strong parties of them were clinging. French Bepuhse Attack. .... . . ... 'mere has been little other military i activity of a nature to call for men tion in the of'icia! statvme t. excep in the Argomie region on the French front. The Germans of the cr -\v jiririce's fences made an attempt ia> night to b: e yk into the line in thitsector. attacking tin eo times. Then assaults were all repulsed, tlie Ger mans sustaining; heavy losses, say today's Paris war office report. On Urn Caucasus front, the Russia' s are showing renewed aggresdvenc:'. in engagements with the Kurfs d tachments of these hostile feces hawbeen driven back into the Rua rogi -n where the Russians today report th capture of the town of Ornoraru, MO miles west of Mori. o NOTICE OF SALE. It is necessary foi every trustee to he present as we wish to take concerted act'on at that, time Our schools are running now and teachers' claims are coming in.
