at Pacific roast ports and distributed
to some extent in differen
parts of the United States. Although
imported mainly for industrial purposes,
it has been brought to the attention
of the United States Department
of Agriculture that some of tinseed

purposes at prices much below tlios*

The farmer is advised not to plant
imported seed, as disappointment
with the .crop will almost certainly
result.
Throughout the Orient where th'"kvians
are largely pro<luced t'hr seed
is bought up by the merchants and
stored at railway stations. No jcr*d-|
ing frs attempted, the stored beans
being of all varieties and mixed more;
or less with sand and trash. The exporters
buy the hearts from the merchants
simply by wejglrt, but before
shipment the beans are graded only
as to eolor of seed and cleaned. Near
1v every lot contains several varieties
resembling each other only in
seed color.
The United States Department of
Agriculture has tested over 1,000 of
soy beans received from different
parts of the Orient, and the great

to the best varieties commonly
