1. It having been called to the attention
of the regimental commander
that there is a general opinion pre
vailing to the effect that men who
have signed up under the conscription
act on June 5. 1917, can not enliit
in the National Guard, the follow

bureau to the adjutant general of
the State regarding voluntary enlistment

n of all concerned:
(a) The Secretary of War directs

registered as required by the selective
service law may continue to
enlist voluntarily until they have
been actually drafted for service under
the selective service law.
(b) These voluntary enlistment ?

Memorandum:
In accordance with letter of the
militia bureau 325,455, December i>,i
1910, to the adjutants general of ali
States, the following instructions in
regard to the designation of organi- j
nations of the National Guard will be
strictly complied with:
(a) The designation of regiments
and separate organizations will com-)
prise the specific organizational des- J
ignation, followed by the words, "Na- i
tionaj Guard."
(b) The organizational designation : ^
will include in the order .stated: j "
1) The numerical designation of L
the unit.
(2) The name of the unit, as "reg-,
intent," "separate batallion," "sepa-,
rate company."
(o) The name of the State, Terri-I
tory or district.
(4) The arm or branch of service.!
(For the purpose of compliance, the
terms "ambulance company," "fiel-1 j
hospital company," will be considered
as the designation of the branch of j
service.)
(c) The following are examples of
the application of the above directions:
