Indemnity for Sinking of
Dutch Steamships.

Further steps led to a reconsideration
of the offer by Germany which

Holland, it is declared, rejected the
offer and the owners, under the cir-1
cum stances, also refused to accept
the proposal of indemnification for
the crews.

to Her Crew.

vivors of the American tank steamer
Illinois, which was sunk Sunday, j
March 18, 20 miles noith of Alder-!
ney by a German submarine, arrived 1
here. Sixteen are Americans, the
others being Swedes and Spaniards.
Gapt. H. Iverson made the following
statement:
"We sailed on March 16, at 7:45
a. in. on the 18th we sighted a submarine
bearing down upon us from'
the southwest from a distance of approximately
three miles. The sub-j

then from us was about two miles,

which was then pulled to the

American consul general, has received
a list of the following five
Americans lost from the American
steamer Vigilancia, torpedoed and
sunk Friday.
Neils North, third officer; F.
Brown, Joseph Fibera, Fstphan Lopez,
C. F. Aderahold. The last named
was from Attala, Ala. The addr
esses of the others were not given.
Among the lost was Alexander
Rodriguez, a Porto Rican, while the
others represented a number of nationalities.
Consul General Skinner also received
word of the safe arrival at
Glasgow of Captain Boium and the
eight missing members of the crew
of the American steamer City of
Memphis, who were picked up after
having been 18 hours in an open
boat.
