It was stated today that the anhorized

pared in bringing the force to that
igure.
To induce recruiting, Congress pro.
rided that 100 enlisted men a year
ihould be selected by examination

Naval officials say that a^vefy

Gone beyond the darksome 1 ivcr,
Only left lis by the way;
Gone beyond the night forever,
Only gone to the endless day.
Gone to meet the angel faces
Where our lovely treasures are:
Gone awhile from our embraces,
Gone within the gates ajar.
There's a sister, there's a brother,
Where our lovely treasures are;
There's a father, there's a mother,
Gone within the gates ajar.
One by one they go before us,
They are fading like tho dew;
