Some men do nothing #11 their
lives, but they can talk you to death.
1>
The time has come in this country
when "dough" is surely "dough."
o???
The human mind is usually made
up so that it expects much more i
than it gets.
o
The farmer must use good judgment
in his affairs if he would succeed.
It is about half the battle in !
anything.
o
The way to get along is to sleep
late in the day, then spend the balance
of the day j.) trying to decide
where to take hold. This |s the plan j
pf some who Hve even on the farm, i
It is high time there are more J
stringent laws in regard to the social
sins, especially as in this day and
time it is the fashion to make laws
for everything under the sun.
o
It takes time and close attention
to build up any business, no matter
small the amount may he. It also
takes the best of attention to keep
up its reputation after it has been
built up.
When you feel like finding fault'
with everything under the sun, re- j
i
member the self-evident fact that j
there is nothing human or earthly'
that is perfect, and that it was never
intended to be perfect. Perfection
can only be attained in another
world far distant from this.
o
The farmer who fails now to raise
plenty of supplies on the farm will |
make his greatest mistake. A money
crop is a good thing and you need it
if you can afford to make it; but it
is pure non-sense to raise a money
crop to the neglect of the supplies
for food.
o
The efforts of prohibitionists like
the things that many other good
people do, are but attempts to force
others to control their appetite.
Usually a man who is so devoid of
will power as to make a hog of
himself in the master of intoxicating
drinkri* if ^leprivecl.'of liquor on which
to oYfirgoiyfe , him self will proceed to
make himself a . beast in some other
way and by the use of other means
equally bad. In truth it is a problem
and we wish there was a satisfactory
solution.

Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin
Corrects Conditions That
Seemed Hopeless.
W
After suffering from chronic constipation
until she was *? Ton down
she was unable to do any hind . of
work, Miss H. A. Frees, 209 Adams
St., Dayton, Ohio, obtained a bottle
of Dr. Caldwell's Synq> Pepsin and
used it with such gratifying: results
that she continued the treatment and
has written to Dr. Caldwell that hei
condition is again normal, and that
she wants to recommend Syrup Pepsin
to everyone who suffers with
constipation.
Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin is a
combination of simple laxative herbs Svith
pepsin, gentle in its action and
free from griping or other pain or
discomfort. It contains no opiate <or
narcotic drug, and, while acting
readily on the most stubborn case oi c
inactive bowels, is absolutely safe for
the tiniest babe, so that it is the ideal
family laxative and should be kept
on hand in every household for use '
when needed.

UNIVERSITY NOTES.
We are glad to report that all the
boys who were with us from home
before Christmas have returned, and
resumed their studies at the University.
The last stage of homesick
ncss has been displaced by the dread
and horror of approaching examina|
tions, and the boys are now directing
! their time to class room work.
The many Horry boys on the camj
pus were glad to see our law makers
I from Horry at the beginnning of the
j session. Many of the boys have been
fortunate enough to secure some
j good position in the Senate, and in
i the House, as clerks of the different
committees, and in other capacities.
Mr. F. A. Thompson has been appointed
clerk of the Banking and
| Insurance, Local Legislation, and
Fish Game and Forrestry committees
of the Seriate.
Carolina was the winner in a harn
f-ught basket ball game at the local
gymnasium Saturday night, wher
they defeated the fast team from
the Presbytrian College of Clintoi.
by a small score. This was the third
game of the season. Carolina has
already met and defeated the fast
Charleston College aggregation. In
the other game they were defeated
by "Wofford, who by the way have,
as usual, one of the fastest teams in
the* State. The Methodists have n
habit of winning the state championship
in basket ball each year and unless
gamecocks terroize the Wofford
terrier in their return game which is
to be played in Spartanburg shortly,
these same players representing
Wofford will likely become state
champions for this season.
Mr. B. Frank Green who has for
the past session been rooming with
our beloved "Baptist elder" J. C.
Brown, has moved across the campus.
It is understood that he left on
good terms.
Mr. Wilson D. Lawrimore, a much
beloved son of the Pee Dee section of
Horry County, has located in Columbia,
and is now one of the most progressive
insurance agents in this district.
We are glad to have Wilson
with us, and trust that his sojourn
in the capital city will be both pleasant
and profitable.
Mr. Patrick fHorrvl XTrmL-c r*f
^ - ^ VI lilt
sophomore class visited Hock Hill
'ast Friday. He made this trip with
the general assembly, who paid their
visit to Winthrop College. Mr. Hooks
reports a most pleasant time, and
has many good things to say of the
good town, as well as the Winthrop
girls.
