Too many people are inclined always
to think and also act as if they
were slaves; when all of the time
they are a long way from filling that
position. Others are in fuel theii
slaves.
o
Why there are some who live intemperate
lives knowing that it is
the worst for them is m<< e than we
can tell you. Ask them.
o
Those who wonder most at strange
things they see, generally go on wondering
and never do understand.
o
The people need to have in office,
men who will feel ..a abiding interest
in the people's welfare and not always
thinking of self advancement.
* - o
Lots of crazy people have never
been sent to the asylum, and there
are a few perfectly sane who were
sent there because others only
thought frhpv urnvp ?r?
o
The men best fitted to servo the
people never run for any office.
o
It is a good rule never to tell your
wife any lies.
o
All Europe would have been
slaughtered to the last man and the
war ended lon.c ago for want of more
men to butcher, if only talk could
have done it.
o
Use the mind to aid the hand in
its work.
o
Strict economy will do as much
toward lowering the high cost of living
as low prices would have done.
o
He or she who wants an education
can certainly get it. The way to do
it is to study and think.
o
Never go to the shop where things
are idle if you want to get things
done; apply rather at the busy place
where it appears that men do something.
o
High cost will result in learning
the people how to economize.

Fear keeps those back who would
otherwise accomplish great things.

The time has come in this country
when great supplies must be raised
and those who raise them will get
living prices for their products.

Mysterious Hand Gives Re-!
ward in"Shielding Shadow"
The third episode of the Shielding:
Shadow, the wonder serial released
by Pathe and produced by Astra,
which will be shown at the Pastime
theatre, next Thursday, is entitled
"The Mystic Defender." The stroy
is characterized by actions of Ravengar,
the man of mystery, who attempts
to secure proof of a forgery
committed by One Lamp Louie which
caused Jerry Carson's imprisonment
and death. |
In a cabaret fire Sebastian saves
himself and deserts Leontine and she
is saved by Ravengar. One Lamp
Louie is struck on the head by a beam
from the ceiling and loses his memory.
When Ravengar takes Leontine
to her home and they find Sebastian
there, Leontine scorns her husband
for his actions at the fire. Muriel,
the dancer, who has been asked in a
note written before her very eyes by
a mysterious hand, is. saved from the
fire and is wondering how she will
get the additional money required to
save her* brother from prison when

as before. This time the note says, I
"You have tried your best. Belter!
luck next time! Herewith the money
you need!" and a roll of bills is placed
upon the desk.
Leontine after Ravengar leaves,!
goes to her rc/m and Sebastian follows
and pleads with her, forgetful
of his compact to treat her as a wife
in name only he takes her in his arms
and kisses her. She repulses him and
by strategy gets him out of the room
She locks the door and angered by
this, he starts to batter it down with
a heavy chair. As the door is about
to give way Sebastian is amazed to
see at the height of a man's head, i
two burning- eyes and close bensnth i
them two white hands, one of which
clutches a dagger. Frightened at
this he backs away and rushes off.
Leontine, surprised, slowly opens the
door and sees the hall empty. She
looks down at her feet and sees the
dagger. She lifts it wondering, examining

Deafness Cannot Be Cured.
by local applications, as they cannot
reach the diseased portion of the ear.
Tnere is only one way to cure deafness
and that is by constitutional
remedies. Deafness is caused by an
inflamed condition of the mucous lining
of the Eustachian Tube. When
the tube is inflamed you have a
rumbling sound or imperfect hearing
and when it is entirely closed, Deafness
is the result, and unless the inflammation
can be taken out and
this tube restored to its normal condition,
hearing will be destroyed forever;
nine cases out of ten are caused
by Catarrh, which is nothing but
an inlk'.med condition of the mucous
surfaces.
