FIRST BOOSTER
TRIP SUCCESSFUL
The first big Horry Fair Booster
Trip was pulled off last Friday. The
long string of gaily decorated cars
left Conway at 9:80 A. M., with the
following cars in line, R. B. Scarborough

Annie Derham carrying Miss Mabel
Norton, Miss Kathleen Sessiors, and

A stop of ten or fifteen
minutes made and buttons and advertising
was distributed. Just beyond
the stores was the school of which
Miss Thelma Snowden is teacher.
The little folks were lined up and C.
R. Scarborough and M. W. Wall
handed out whistles and buttons. The
next stop was Wampee. Several
minutes wero spent here shaking
hands with the large crowd gathered
to meet the visitors. At 12:30 Little
River was reached. We were met by
Mr. Moore Thompson and W. H.
Stone arul escorted to the Grove on
the banks of Little River. Mr.
Thompson had the gasoline Launch
"Regal" ready and all went aboard j

Upon our return we found that Mrs. I
, \V. H. Stone with other good ladies
had spread a magnificent repast of
[everything good to eat. After dinner,
Col. R. B. Scarborough and D.
A. Spivey in a few well chosen remarks
expressed the appreciation of
the visitors for the great hospitalit>
shown them. Reluctantly the visitors
had to move on at 2:30. Longs
was reached at 3:30 where the school
v. as visited and buttons and whistles
and other souvenirs handed out.
Loris was reached at 4:30. A
laige crowd was gathered to meet
the Boosters. A very pleasant quarter
of an hour was spent shaking
hands with the Loris folks and inviting
them to the fair. At this point
the Boosters were joined by Messrs.
S. P. Hawes, S. C. Richardson and
and Joe Chestnut. Bavboro was the
next stop at 5:30. Here we found
Arnold Bell boosting for the fair.
The next stop scheduled was Adrian
but it was dark when that point was
reached so we passed on. Conway
was raeched at 6:30 with everybody
tired but happy and feeling that the
first booster trip was a great sue-;
cess. Be sure to go with us on the i
next one Friday the 10th. You will
have a big time. . i

Among the oldest preachers of
the gospel known to the people of
this county, is the Rev. W. H. Kirton,
who has now reached an advanced j
age. He and Mrs. Kirton spent som^j
time here last week being involved |
in the law suit brought a year or two
ago by Stanley Barnhill concerning
the division of the tract of land formerly
owned by Daniel J. McQueen
and conveyed to Mrs. Emma C.
Barnhill in part and to Mrs. Orilla V,
Kirton in part.

Clemson College.?In order that
thousands upon thousands of dollars
worth of honey that annually goes
to waste in South Carolina might be
saved to the farmers of the state,
the Extension Division has planned
to put on a beekeeping campaign.
The Division Entomologist, in eo peration
with the county agents, will
be at the services of any and all
parties in the state interested in
bees, and in addition to his regular
work of advising and aiding in the
control of field insects, will give
practical demonstrations in beekeeping.
Already the present annual honey
crop of the state is worth about
$750,000, and only a very few thousand
dollars worth of honey is put on
the market. If the bees which produce
this honey received the encouragement
of a little more attenand.

be much greater. As the growing of
alfalfa and cover crons inrwas<?a.
which it is doing every year, the pos?<
sibilities of making many tons of the
finest kind of honey increase correspondingly,
and the honey industry of
the state can be made to be of much
