NOTKS FROM TH10 UNIVERSITY.
The Horry County club was recently
organized here at Carolina,
with a large membership. The following
officers were elected to load
this body; president, L. I). Singleton;
vice-president, Howard Little; secretary
and traesurer, B. Frank Green.
The Independent Republic is well
represented at Carolina this year,
having nine members. They are B.
Frank Green, L. I). Singleton, J. D.
Dusenbury, F. A. Thompson, Hooks,
Brown, Hooks, Gaskins, Howard
Little. This is the largest club Horry
has ever had on the campus, and
we hope it will continue to grow.
Mr. Green has been confined in the
infirmary for the past week. He
seems to be suffering with a desire
to return to Horry, and a severe
cold. We regret this very much, and
hope he will soon be able to return
to his class room work.
The second foot ball game of the
season was played Saturday with
Wofford. The game resulted in a
victory for Carolina. This was expected
as Carolina enjoys many ad
vantages over the smaller schools
an<l colleges of the State. The
sturdy trojans who represent Wofford
on the gridiron this year, are ?
most aggressive bunch, and are to be
reckoned with regardless of their
light weight, and inexperience. There
was one familiar face in Wofford's
line-up; W. K. Suggs of Loris who
played a brilliant game for the
methodists. This was the second
game of the season, Carolina having
met defeat at the hands of Newberry
College two weeks ago.
We are looking forward with interest
to fair week, which will soon
be here. During that week we meet

the most talked of event at CaroI

are nevertheless optimistic over the

hope to ride that old tiger on a lean

printed and you are reading now, I
cost us three times what it did in!

* O&orge J. Holliday has invested a
la i' ge sum' of mojiey in modern cottern
'ginning- machinery, and has used
his own invofltiV'e ability to a large
extent in constructing plants Jordanville
and at Galivants Terry.
These plants can take care of all of
the cotton raised in that s-etion.
There is a modern plant at Jordanville
which is operated by steam. At
Galivants Kerry are two outfits operated
by a forty horse power gasoline
engine.
The gins are so arranged that it
takes a minimum of labor to handle
the cotton and at the same time
urns out the greatest number of
ginned bales per day. The plants
row owned and operated by Mr. Holliday
make it convenient for the
people in that section of the county.
