Air, J, P. McNeill gave a boat ride
on last Wednesday evening in honor
ef Miss Maiy Harrington, of Mullins,
S. C., a sister of Mrs. J. P. McNeill.
The party left the wharf at about 9
o'clock and went several miles down
the river The boat was then tied
up and a delightful lunch was served.
On returning Mr. McNeill marched
the paryt to the Casino where the
moving pictures added to the many
pleasurse already enjoyed.
Miss Mary Harrington, who has
been spending some time here visiting
her sister, Mrs. J. P. McNeill, left
last week for here home in Mullins,
S. C.

After the ceremony a bounteful

After the ceremony the couple left
on the afternoon train for the bridegroom's
former home in Tennessee.
After visiting* there and at other
places for about two weeks Mr. and
Mrs. Sutherland will return and be
home to their friends at Conway.
The bride is a charming lady ol
many accomplishments and fine
traits of character. Mr. Sutherland
is a member of the firm of Sutherland
Furniture Co., now and for sonic
time past engaged in the furniture
business in this county.

tical test of our educational efficiency.
Every white man above tweny-om
years of age is entitled to enroll 01
his local club, and should be urged to
do so. As far as practical, every
voter should write his own signature,
although it will be nec.?ssAry for ununtrained
and unlettered men to sign
with a cross.
On the democratic club rolls of
1914 nearly 22 per cent of the reported
enrollment was marked with a
cross. Is it too much to hope that a
general and universal enrollment in
1910 will show a material reduction

in this percentage of illiterates? 1
hope local club officers everywhere
will join hands with school workers
in an effort to reduce this number.
After the enrollment for each county
has been finished, I shall ask the j
