Tnirr> TO KEEP SAFETY Washington, June 21.?Strong pressure is being brought to bear upon Gen. Carranza by representatives of European powers to prevent him from forcing a break with the United I States. Indirect reports reaching the State Department told of these efforts and said there was a possibility they would be successful. Agencies of the entente allies are understood to be active for peace, par ticularly because they believed German influence has sought to inflame the Mexican government against the United States with a view to preventing this country from gathering In trade formerly controlled by Ger many in Mexico, South and Central America. It is pointed out that Carranza might avoid war by calling for an international commission to discuss the border situation as provided for in tne treaty of 1848. HOUSE PARTY AT j MYRTLE BEACH The noon-day trian last Saturday carried a crowd of Conway girls to i Myrtle Beach where they were hav-J ing a week-end house party. Several j Lett on the alter trains and some went j through the country to join the I party. When the final count was made there were fifteen girls pres-' I ent. This was strictly a "ladies' 1 party," but somehow, on Sunday j morning at about 9 o'clock cars, load-' ?d with young men, began arriving from town and soon the strand and the Burroughs cottage was a lively place. For dinner on Sunday there I were 35 in number and all waiting1 for the sound of the bell. "Camel," J the cook, began preparing for the | feast early qjl\ Sunday morning and at 3 o'clock dinner was served. The surf was enjoyed very much during the stay and "duckings" came j : verv oftpn Thprp vnnntr , man present though who stood I straight on a firm foundation and when he went thorugh the biggest of the breakers the only remark any one could hear him make was "by George." The doctor was always on hand, while the A. C. L. R. R. always had a representative and a lawyer to plead their cause, a fine showing was made from the grocery and dry goods stores, while some one was along to look after the mail. A car never came without an attractive chauffeur at the wheel and saw mili men always showed up. The concert given by the young ladies Monday evening was a delight especially the "sufferago speech" by one young- lady who was very decided j in h^'- belief until taking a stroll or ( the strand after which something seemed to nave made a change for thorp wns '-*0 further reference made tn "Inferior creature man."
