of the laws of the land is regarded
as an outcast; and this is as severe
punishment as anything that could
happen to the convicted criminal.

It is the legal duty of every man
when injured by the negligent act of
another, to make his damages as
small as possible.

What has become < f the old fashioned
farmer who on Sunday, just before
dinner, would go out into his
watermelon patch and treat his guests
to half a dozen watermelons?

The average citizen living on his
own farm manages to lose at least a
third of his time (luring the year.
This time that is thrown away at first
one useless thing and another and
frittered away in idleness would put
some of them on the road to fortune
in the course of years.
o
The enforcement of the law in any
community depends upon the influor.ee
of the better class of people
living in it. much more than it does
upon the officers of the law. The leading
men and women of a community
can have a whole lot to do with the
suppression of the acts of the lawless
if they will but try.
o
Some times men are willing to
say quite a lot against the character
and good faith of some fellow
man, provided the fellow man does
not know who the slanderer is.
From this idea springs the half
educated, "would-be" writer who
will manage to "cook" up a column
of dirty little flings at another,
and publish this conglomeration in
the columns of some sheet whose
management agrees with him and
signed by some letter or initial
without the writer's true name being
disclosed. Such things are^
really a worse slander on the medium
of publication than they are
o.i the subject of the remarks, and
further they help to disclose the
ignorance of the would-be hidden
author.

By virtue of the rights in nie vested
by the Bankruptcy Laws of the United
States, and by virtue of the order
of the Court of Bankruptcy made and
entered in the above stated case upon
Petition of the undersigned as Trustee
of the said bankrupt, I will sell at
nublic auction to the hip-host bidders
for cash at 10 o'clock A. M., on April
10th, 1910, at Loris, in Horry County,
South Carolina, the following described
real and personal estate of said
bankrupt, subject to all of the mortgages
and liens thereon now existing,
which will be stated at the time of
sale, to-wit:
"Tract No. 1. Containg five hundred,
eighteen and 17-100 (518.17)
acres and bounded on the North by
lands of W. H. Graham; East by
lands of Suggs, lands of Prince and
lands of J. B. Graham; South by lands
of Prince, lands of Suggs and lands of
Springs; and West by lands of W. E.
Graham and lands of C. M. Reaves,
the lines having been surveyed by J.
M. Johnson, C. E., November 1911,
and being the same lands conveyed to
C. M. Reaves by Land Security Co.,
by deed dated February 24th, 1914.
Tract No. 2. Containing ninety
seven (97) acres, lying; on both sides
of the Tochls Kerry Public Road and
bounded on the North by the Graham
estate; on the Kast by Tract No. 1
hereinbefore described; on the South
by lands of Thomas Holmes; and on
the West by lands of 1). D. Harrelson,
being1 the same lands purchased by C.
M. Heaves from Mary A. Reaves."
The above two tracts being subject

to a prior mortgage held by Burroughs
