RHEUMATISM ARRESTED
Many people suffer the tortures of j
lauic muscles unci stiffened joints because t
of impurities in the blood, and each sue- j
ceeding attack seems more acute until ;
rheumatism has invaded the whole system. j
To arrest rheumatism it is quite as im- |
W portant to improve your general health as
to purify your hloou, aud the cod liver oil
inbcott'sEmulsion is nature'sgreat bloodmaker,
while its medicinal nourishment
strengthens the organs to expel the
impurities and-upbuild your strength.
Scott's Emulsion is helping thousand?
very day who could not find other relief.

The Latest Critic.

Navy Board Requests That'
Commission be Named
For Purpose.
i
New York.?The Navy Consulting!
Board of the United States at a meet-'
ing here adopted a resolution request-j
ing Secretary of the Navy Daniels to |
urge upon President Wilson the erca-j
tion of a commission to make offec- j
tive the synthetic production of nitro-j
gen in this country. Such production
was declared to be immediately vital |
to agricultural interests el' the coun- i
try.
The board discussed the question ofj
manufacturing nitrogen from air for J
American powder plants, emphasis'
being made that the United States is
dependent upon Chile for the product
and that war conditions have made its
price prohibitive. Dr. VV. R. Whitney,
of Schenectady, chairman of t'.io|
board's committee on physics and1
chemistry, turned in a report which j
was made the basis for the resolution. |
This committee and one on ordnance
and explosives have been studying the i
problem for several weeks.
Didn't Know Names.
Guantanamo, Cuba. March 15.?
That the distinctly American sailing
ship has disappeared from the high
seas is evidenced in tho fact that only
fifty per cent of the force of United
States Marines on duty at this station i
could tell the names of the seven ||
masts, at an examination recently
held here.
These "soldiers and sailors too,"?
members of the United States Marine
Corps, keep themselves keenly alive
to things nautical, as well as military,j
and that only half of the force could
name the seven masts is due entirely 1
to the fact that there are now no sev- j
en-masted schooners flying the American
flag. The Thomas W. Lawson
was the last of these.
Fore, main, mizzen, pusher, driver,
jigger, and spanker, are the names in
order, running fore and aft, of a seven-masted
ship.

Lord Fisher.
London.?W i n ?j t o v. "Churchill's
speech in the House of Commons is
the subject of many columns of comment
in the London morning papers.
His speech arouses many divergent
views and pens up old wounds. The
attitude of most of the editors is that
>; outspoken disapproval. The Times
says:
"The episode will he remembered
more for Col. Churchill's warnings on
he score ef naval material than for
hi.:, recommendation for the return
of Lord Fisher. We regret that Lord
Fisher's name should have been raised
in a manner which is bound to provoke
personal controversy. This is
| no time for allowing personal likes
I and dislikes to sway in the choice of
men."
The Daily News says:
"We are not sure that Lord Fisher
has not reason to ask to be saved
from his friends. We do not like to
see his claims associated with a shadowy
criticism of the admiralty and an
at lack on the government."
j The Standard says:
"It is doubtful whether the interests
of the navy and best served by
tin advocacy of an appointment in so
public and dramatic a fashion."
The Morning Post says:.
"It will need more than the vindici
tivc insinuations of Churchill to disturb
the nation's faith in the navy.
Col. Churchill, who is mainly responsible
for the disastrous Dardanelles
expedition, has amazing effrontery to
return to the House of Commons and
offer gratuitous advice to the admiralty.
"We should be sorry to see the
Fisher matter become one of acrimonious
controversy," says the Daily
Chronicle, "although we hope that the
services of this greatest originating
sailor of modern times will once more
b ' adequately utilized."
The Standard announces that
Cbureh.i!F\s recent promotion to a colone!
was in no way due to influence
but was solely the result of "hie ?n\
iinctive performance. in the field."
"A man with Co!. Chu 'chill's genius
for administration," the Standard
adds, "can manage a military unit cu;
easily as a government department.
Col. Churchill lias no intention of ini
Ic rrupting his military career and
military men expect that lie will
reach the rank of brigadier general
before long."
The Daily Sketch says:
"Admiral Lord Cisiier sat in a most,
prominent position i:i the House of
Commons gallery over the clock and
smiled while Col. Churchill was speak
ir.y. It had only been four months
since he sat in the same p ace and
listened to Churchill make a stuurinc
attack on him.
"In our opinion Col. Churchill scorns
a bit too rasping in his criticism
cf the admiralty. Ho has only
boon four months out of the cabinet
and really the bottom does not fall
out of the world in so short, a time.
Old politicians detected a desire to
pay of fold political scores against
.Mr. Balfour in his speech."

The British admiralty recently officially
made public the admiralty's
orders to armed merchantmen given
October 20, 1015. The order says
hat the armament cf such vessels
must be used solely for resisting an
attack of an armed vessel and for
no other purpose. As British submarines
and aircraft are ordered not to
approach merchantmen, the orders
say, the approach to a British merchantman
of a submarine is to be regarded
as done with a hostile intention.
