THURSDAY, MARCH 16, 1916 The sensible young man or young woman will come along in the world realizing that there are other things in Ufc more important than love making. o The fact that some men will lose a day in order to save a nickle, shows that in the estimation of some people time is absolutely without value. This nation is becaming awakc'ned on the question of preparedness and wc do not feel that there is any danger at ali that we will overdo the thing. o Some of the largest brains we have ever known in this country were carried in the heads r he smallest men. Th0 size of a man's hat band has nothing to do with it. t ^ The best articles arc sold direct "from the maker or the regular dealer. 1 The tiavellmg agent has to demand a higher price in order to cover this j extra tosi of selling the article. Remember ico that time prices are always about 2.r> per cent, higher than when \(.u 1 uy for cash. The cash "system of living is the only way to succeed. Time prices will ruin anybody, let alone the farmers. o Farmers are learning how to manage much better than they used to know. This year in view of the high prices of fertilizers, they are making arr.u gements to do without so much of this commodity by making compost and other forms of fertilizer at home and this will be used more in this countV thjin nvnr tw.i ? - J. w ? w. ? \#I V IO VUI prediction. It will result we believe in large 1 profits to the tillers of the I soil. o Well, they certainly can be fickle when they choose to be. Young applicant number one is highly favored and they become engaged. Number two comes along and breaks into the calculations. Number one is not entirely cast off, but matters progress rapidly with the number two that he is accepted and the engagement fixed, and he feels so confident that w J he leaves for foreign parts to hunt a better job. He has not been gone long before number three comes along. Hej is a very zealous lbV^V**1 irifled and things go so far that the wedding day is appointed. And just here number two returns upon the scene. Well, matters of this kind often get so much mixed up that it is really cause for wonder. 4 \ -v - LANDS ARE ROBBED BY WINTER RAINS (CONTINUED FROM PAGE :>>) wnat is known as the level bench terrace, the land between any two terraces becoming a level bench with no fall in any direction after a few years' cultivation. The level bench terrace is best suited to most of the farms In Piedmont South Carolina The strongest and highest terraces should be located, as a rule, near the upper edge of the hillside Held, because if the top terrace breaks it is well nigh impossible to prevent the terraces below from being swept away. Run a terrace or ditch at the upper edge of the field to care for the sur is water which may come from an Ijoinlng field. paature or woodland. Such aurplus water often proven too much for any system of terraces to control. Crossing terraces with teams, plows or wagons will form depressions that will allow water to hreak over and Rtart gullies, which weaken and destroy a terrace. Avoid this by leaving at the end of the field a sodded slope to be used as a road to get from one terrace bench to another. KXTKNSION DIVISION.
