TWO .i L .L. PARIS MODISTES DRAW SHARP LINT Won't Sell to American Customers Who Are of German Origin MRS. GALT'S GOWNS MAY BE INVOLVED I Buyer Claiming to Be Selecting for President's Fiancee Is Barred. ; Paris.?The Paris Dressmakers' Syndicate has blacklisted two Ameri- ^ can customers of German origin, one of them a man named Kurzmann, re-; 1 puted to have been commissioned to buy gowns for Mrs. Norman Gait, ac- ( cording to Gustave Tory's newspaper, 5 L'Oeuvrc. 1 The newspaper avers Kurzmann < has threatened to raise a diplomatic i question because of the modistes' re- < fusal to accept orders from him. L'Oeuvrc declares, however, that each l_ 1 i nwuoc 11 win w uiiii in- onierea gowns, has offered to suply them with its: compliments to Mrs. Gait without havj )ng them to pass through the hands i of an intermediary. Paul Poiret, president of the Dress-! makers' Syndicate, is absent from J Paris. His confidential secretary, however, confirmed the statement that Kurzmann has threatened to! raise a diplomatic question over the T matter. "You may declare that no member of our syndicate will deliver gowns to a Kurzmann, or through Kurzmann, or p * any other German house," said the f secretary. "At the same time, each ( or every member of the syndicate ( would be proud to be honored with a a commission to make a gown for s President Wilson's fiancee, and would S be most happy if permitted to present v it. with its compliments." s Rue De La Paix and other leading s houses refuse to state whether or not a they have bad orders for crowns. t T' A Paris dispatch early this month r Said Charles Kurzmann, of New York, C was there to select gowns for the wed ding of President Wilson and Mrs. Gait. He was quoted as saying that,! ' r while it "would be indiscreet to talk j 1 about clothes ordered by the Wilson M family before obtaining permission J s from the White House," he felt that [ "Washington can look forward to a ? brilliant social season after the wed- ^ ding."
