PRESIDENTS FOR ? WOMAN SUFFRAGE: ? X ' f Declares He Will Vote For This Amendment in New Jersey Bgi-t ,\ J BELIEVES BENEFIT * WILL CONIE OF IT : Thinks Time Has Come to , Put Ballot in Hands of Women Washington.?Pres. Wilson will vote for the woman suffrage State constitutional amendment in New Jersey, at the special election October 19. He said he would vote, not as the leader of the Democratic party, but as a private citizen. Mr. Wilson said he believed the question should not be made a party NjP issue and should he decided by the states. The following statement was given * out at J.he White House: "I intend to vote for woman suflf| rage in New Jersey because I believe that the time has come to extend that privilege and responsibility to the women of the State; but I shall vote, not as the leader of my party in the na* tion, but only upon my private conviction as a citizen of New Jersey, call ed upon by the legislature of the State to express his conviction at the polls. I think that New Jersey will be greatly benefitted by the change. "My position with regard to the way in which the great question ^ should be handled is well known. I believe that it should be settled by the States and not by the national government, and that in no circumstances should it be made a party question; and my view has grown stronger at every turn of the agitation." Train Rifled in West Virginia Mountain of Large Amount BIG BOOTY TAKEN FROM MAIL CARS Engineer Compelled to Run Forward to Remote Place of Robbery. Two masked men early Friday held up and robbed a Baltimore and Ohio express train from New York to St. Louis, two miles west of Central, W. Ya. Their booty was taken from mail cars, according to reports received, and was believed to be large. Grant Helms, the engineer, was attracted by a noise from the tender. Looking over his shoulder he saw two masked men climbing over the coal carrying shotguns. One of the men ordered Helms to cut off the engine and mail car. After he ran the locomotive two miles westward tinder the cover of guns, Helms and the fireman were compelled to alight. The other man then took the throttle and ran the engine and car a mile or two farther west. The robbers then went through the mail car, looting the registered mail. More than two hours from the time ?ut .--j-M ' wi tut: i uuuury uniu news could be sent to division headquarters at Parkersburg and Grafton. Helms said he could not give a good description of the men. He said they were experienced in the handling of a locomotive. Railroad authorities believe the men hurried over the hills to a road near Central station where they had an au' tomobile. * j The train left New York. Usually it carried important mail and express, i The amount of booty secured is unknown. The county officials were informed that the robbers who held up the Baltimore and Ohio train got about 100 registered packages and 90 packages of unsigned bank notes being sent from Washington to banks in the Middle West. The value of the currency was estimated at $500,000, ^ | \ " '"-J Troublesome details have yet to be adjusted before Lord Reading, representing Great Britain and France, and J. P.
