Nothing is cheaper than talk. 1?o Time is really not money, but it can be turned into money. o The other fellow's job is always the easiest apparently. It is not so in fact. ???o Application and undivided attention to the work at hand is necessary to success. o The great tasks of this world were never worked out by talkative men and women. o Avoid arguments with your neighbor because it may lead you into a row with him.. o It is unfair to allow a secret to be told you, unless you have learned how to keep such a thing. o Some men are like the Ford. They were made to go, and they will go, although they go into pieces. o This country can afford to sacrifice a great deal to keep out of war with the other nations of the world. o Talking is generally a useless expenditure of energy where there is actual manual labor to be done. o Wften you have decided on the course to bo taken then go to it in the straightest and most direct lines. o The spare fruit and vegetables on the farm for which there is no market should be canned and kept for Winter use. * * * * * It is not only your duty to make ffood use of your own time; but you should refrain from causing your neighbor to lose his time. o Those who have engaged in a personal encounter will tell you that it is the hardest work they ever did. It is a hard thing for the winner even. o In this world there is much to be learned. Some m> n think they know it all to begin wiui. Others realize that they have never larned anything. ? o Leave your job to be done with the man who has nothing to do and the chances are that you will never get it done. Try the busy man for the quickest delivery. It is agreed on all sides that thisj country will see an era of great prosperity following the European war. We hope. S -and the reasons I given for this hope are reasonable. o Conway is already an 'examyfte ?of a town that has succeeded in banishing the chill and fever. It has been done by close attention to sanitation, the keeping out of the house "Uly and the mosquito o A little time spent in destroying filth about the farm and in the improvement of its drainage, may save a forty day fever and a big mortgage to pay a doctor's bill. Watch these little things all the time and it will pay 111 the long run. o No town can lay any claim to being like a city until it has paved streets. It may be like a city in some respects but if it likes this, it is far behind the times, and certainly belongs to the village class of community. o lliri mflii U'lirt vnclifit infr> n ?i office where every man, boy and girl is as busy as a bee, and the manager too. In nine eases out of ten he will begin by asking the foolish question number one million: "Are you busy to-day"7" o Tn some communities it is impossible to gel the people together on any public question of common intrest. Selfishness is generally the reason. Some men had rather miss a great benefit than for their neighbors to obtain a very small advantage. o Too many newspapers are inclined to have an unpremeditated outburst, both without warning and without any just provocation; jumping on a contemporary with editorials a mile long containing veiled hints and inuendoes without number; while the readers cannot possibly have the least idea of what its all about anyway. o The ambition of the rural districts of this country is to have as much as possible the advantages now enjoyed by the cities and towns. Among the things that a rural community i should have the priviledge of taking and reading is an up-to-date county paper. One that gives all of the local news in plain language and in short I form easy to understand, and a paper which compares favorably with the city daily in appearance and quality of the print. o It is well to remember that while measles and whooping cough, perhaps other contagious diseases, may not be j serious in so far as immediate results' are concerned; that they are often | followed by affections that finally prove fatal. We have heard some parents say that it was just as well to take their children into these diseases at once and let them have them while young, for sooner or later they would take them anyway. We feel that this idea is wrong. T3y putting the children into it now you may shorten the lives of one or more of them, and by waiting while running from these diseases, the children may in the end es cape, or if they are forced to have them in later life, they would be mature and better able to stand the effects of the diseases. Teachers* Examination. The next regular teachers' examination will be held at the Court House in Conway Friday, Oct. 1st, 1915.
