James attended in Conway last Saturday as a witness in a ease in the State of Georgia. His disposition in the case was taken by H. H. Woodward, commissioner appointed for the purpose. The suit was brought by Mrs. O. E. James to set aside a deed for her land in -that State and which she alleges was obtained from her by one W. P. An automobile backed too close to a horse attached to a dray on 3rd Avenue one evening last week. The horse broke the gear and the wagon in one or two places and loosened a shoe. Dawsey of Conway, a wellknown jeweler and optician has just been granted a patent for new and interest ing improvements in timepieces. The application for the improvement in timepieces was filed by him on November 4th, 1914, and the pat '^y>vv... ' - ; John K. Dawsey, im* ' cuts were granted to him on September 7th, 1915, the serial number being 870,284: His claims for the improvement*id timepieces are set forth in his affidavit filed with his application are as follows: 4Be it known that 1, John E. Dawsey, a ctitizen of the United States, residing at Conway, in the State of South Carolina and County of Horry, have invented new and useful improvements in timepieces." What 1 Claim Is: "In a time piece, the combination wfin minute arber, of series with series of overlapping time indicating lisk, a gear fast on said arber and provided with cscapnient teeth, a spur pinion driven thereby, and arbor for said pinion, and escapement wheel on said pinion arber, and means admitting of a limited relative rotative movement of said pinion and escapement wheel, whereby the sur pinion is constantly revolved and the escapement wheel is operated intermittently, 5"id means embodying a spring connection, said pinion and escapement wheel and acting quickly advances the sscapment wheel wnen the latter is released by the escapment lever, and an escapement lever one arm of which cooperates with the minute gear and the other arm of which cooperates with said escapement wheel." I little returned recently from a visit to relatives and friends in Tennessee. ***** There was speaking at the court house last Sunday in behalf of the prohibition movement. The speakers of the day were Jeremiah Smith and Hon. Robt. Ik Scarborough. There was a good attendance. ***** Capt. R. G. Pusenbury of Murrells Inlet was an arrival in Conway last Saturday. * * * * ? Mrs. P. Allen Spivey and children recently returned from the Summer home at Hendersonville, N. Buck. ***** The Burroughs School opened last Monday morning with the full corps of teachers in their places and a good attendance of pupils. The term promises to be a successful one. ***** A. A. Nissen of Florence is here with his brother, George F. Nissen. ***** Mrs. Flora Clark recently went to Florence, S. C., to visit friends and relatives. She was accompanied by her daughter, Mise Bessie Clark.
