TWO KILLS HIS WIFE AND HER SISTER Jealousy and Madness Cause Trouble on Street Car in Nashville PULLED PISTOL AND GAVE NO WARNING Smith Had Been Separated From Wife Who Sued For Divorce. Nashville Tenn.?Panic stricken passengers on a street car here witnessed the fatal shooting of Mrs. George Smith and her sister, Mrs. Maud Sloan Hunter, by George Smith. Smith left the car, hurried home and shot himself as officers were entering his gate to arrest him. Smith and the two women are dead. Smith was a mechanic, aged 35 years, and had been separated from his wife, who was suing for divorce. He started to shoot without warning and panic reigned in the car as he continued firing and one after the other of the women fell prostrate to the floor. i Mrs. Hunter died while being lifted uorr. the car and Mrs. Smith lived only 20 minutes after being taken to a hospital. Smith went directly home, followed soon after by officers. As they entered his gate they heard one shot fired in the house. They found him dead with a bullet wound in the head. Another officer stopped J. J. Sloan, father of Mrs. Smith, from going into the Smith residence. He was armed with a shotgun. o ! * I ALLEN NOTES. Anderson went to Myrtle Beach last Friday evening and decided to go on to the waring nations but the "Ford" wouldn't make the trip on account of high water in the Atlantic. Mr. G. E. Byrd visited his friends and relatives at Nixonville the early part of last week. Mr. J. W. Booth and son, Mack came to Allen, th early part of the week on business. E. C. Allen and M. C. Holmes made a trip over to the beach Saturday evening. Hattie Smith, widow of Jule Smith, the negro who was shot to death in the court house at Winnsboro in June, was shot to death Sunday in her home two miles from Blaney. Last week a whiskey still was captured in the northern part of Marlboro county near the state line, in the head of Little White's creek, about 2 miles east of Osborne. The capture was made by Sheriff R. J. Paterson and deputies and Deputy United States Marshall R. F. Jenkins of Florence. Mayor W. R. Barringer of Florence has been in New York city for the past several days on business connected with the bond issues. , J. S. Dudley, instructor in history at the University of South Carolina has returned after spending the summer at Camp Cherokee, Bryson City, N. C., where he has an associate counselor. Thirty thousand dollars in debt, with nothing in the treasury, Aiken county is unable to pay off, to meet its regularly monthly bills or to pay salaries to the county officers. The general inefficiency of diseased children and the condition of the dairying interests in South Carolina were the subjects discussed at the session last week of the joint conference of the State board of charities and corrections and the Conference for Common Good, which has been in session since Tuesday night. Manning discussed from the standpoint of the farmer the problem of marketing the cotton crop of 1915. The supreme court reversed the decision of the circuit court of Spartanburg which in a suit of John A. garrison vs. the Southern Bell Telephone company awarded a verdict of $5,000 to the plaintiff. The suit was brought by John A. Harrison, administrator of the estate of his son, Herbert Harrison, who was accidentally electrocuted several years ago while employed as a lineman by the telephone company. * ?> !
