One weekly paper last month issued
a perfectly blank sheet, and whether
it was an accident of the presses or
done on purpose we are not informed,
?perhaps ii was an utter lack of
news.

You had as well try to batter down
.a stone wall with a billy goat as to
try to convince some people that it
pays to spend money for improvements.
It is one of the hardest jobs
ever undertaken.

Conway has as pretty a business
block as you will find in the whole
country for a town of Conway's size.
The only eye-sore is the uneven and
dusty street. Why not pave it and
make it look like a city sure enough.
o
The rising generation of the town is
just now afflicted with the whoopingcough.
Everybody has a remedy and
none of them arc any good. Here is
room for some doctor to make his
name known to coming ages by discovering
a cure.

I wish that every day in a whole
month was a windy day so that the
purchase of a street sprinkler would
become an absolute necessity in order
that the city fathers might keep the

them to count their change.

The tobacco market at Conway this
year is bound to be as good as any in
the state. Another large warehouse
will be finished in time to engage in
the sale of the leaf, thus making four
warehouses in all. There will be no
trouble about getting buyers on such
a market as this will be and there
should be no trouble in showing the
farmers where it is to their advantage
to patronize home and bring their
entire crops here instead of sending
some of it off for experiment on other
floors.

What right had the 200 Americans
who lost their lives on the ill-fated
Lusitania to risk their own lives in
going to England and at the same
risk involving this country in wai
with one of the belligerents? The>
had no right at all. They had beer
warned several times that their goinji
would likely be dangerous. The German
officials had advertised in sever
al of the New York papers that the>
had better not take passage on th<
Lusitania. Hut their interests as wel
as their pleasure demanded that thej
go and they went never to returr
alive. The consequences evidently die
not end with their deaths for alreadj

the matter has led to a serious situation
in the relations between the
United States and Germany. They
had no right to do it, and they should
not have done it. And now since the
consequences of going is well understood,
it is folly for others to try to
take passage to England on the ocean
