C., from a case of scarlet fever. The CA child was taken sick there during a W visit which the mother was paying to ^ relatives. At last accounts the child was rapidly improving, though it has W been very ill at one time. O > cn The H. W. Lewis stock which j was seized under a chattel mortgage ^ here some weeks ago and remained x closed up, was handled by a man sent jS from Charleston for the business, and w he tried to sell what he could of the K st^ok and fixtures and had to ship the balance to Charleston. Principal features of the meeting at 7 :; o'clock, concluding the programme ]' for the three days' session was a dis; i cussion of social service and public morals and an address by Dr. E. C : Dargan of Macon. Ga. John hake, a mis' s'onary to China, told of how the Chinese supported the Baptist orphan| age there and therefore how much ' more incumbent it was upon South Carolina Baptists <o properly support the Connie Maxwell orphanage. Dr. J F Vines of Anderson read the j report on the recently established j South Carolina Baptist hospital which j is located in Columbia, and doing splendid work, as the addresses showj cd. Dr. Vines complimented the business sagacity of the trustees in beiiu j able to keep the hospital on a safe j financial basis in the present hard ! times. Declaring that they were twe ! men who had dene much for the hos j pital, the Rev. Louis J. Bristow, pros;dent of the board, call d upon Dr. James IT. Mcintosh of Columbia and J. J. (-entry, superintendent, to sneak j Dr. Mcintosh to!-] in a y,leasing niani ner of what the hospital was doing. Although ra.ther si"all, it was thorj oughly up-to-date and o die ion,. plant, he stated, having more than MO phyi cicians and surgeons connected with I it, and providing the be st of attention ' and nursing. Mr. (Gentry showed that he had his whole heart in the work, and spoke of its accomplishments, its training school for nurses, and its great Christian influences. The Rev. Mr. Bristow and several others told of specific and touching instances where almost hopeless cases had been cured at the Baptist hospital. The extent to which charity work should be carried on led to quite a discussion, it being proposed that $6,000 r^pvoprieted by the various church cs for this object. It was announced that the Rev. W. T. The report on obituaries was presented by the Rev. A. C. Wilkins, and the deceased mmisters and deacons memorialized. This was an impressive service. The Baptist hospital, postponed from the morning:, proved an interesting: discussion. Work of the trustees was commended. The sum of ?0,000 was recommended for charity work.
