R. 13. Scarborough is making extensive
improvements at his farm near
Bear Swamp. Several new cottages
have gone up there in the past few
weeks.

Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Duscnbury of
Florence passed through Conway last
Monday on their return home, after
spending several days here and in the
county, visiting friends and relatives.

J. P. Johnson, an employee of the
Conway Lumber Co., sustained a
slight injury to one of his feet, while
at work about the plant last Thursday.
Prof. M. W. Wall was taken very
ill at his room in the - Buck building
the latter part of last week and was
removed to the home of his brother
Mr. B. Wall. Many friends of Prof.
Wall will hope for his early recovery.

Dr. W. J. Langston arrived in Conway
last week and spent several days
with his son, the Rev, LaRue Langston.
Dr. Langston left for his home
on last Thursday morning. He was
formerly pastor of the Conway Baptist
church and while here endeared
himself to the people of Conway. They
are always glad to see him.
The sheriff sent a deputy out to the
place of A. J. Joye last Saturday to
seize fhe crop made on the Joye place
The seizure was made under a claim
and delivery writ issued upon a chattel
mortgage of the crops for fertilizers
during the year 1914. Joye is a
planter who moved into this county
within the last year or two. The
farm belongs to L. L. Joye, the father
of A. J. Joye.
Albert B. Hall, Esq., of Baltimore,
was in Conway several days last week
engaged in making an investigation
into tne reported shortage in the office
of ex-treasurer J. N. Jenrette, and
for which suit has been filed by the
State of South Carolina against the
American Bonding Company of Baltimore,
the surety of Mr. Jenrette.
Mr. Hall was representing the bonding
the bonding company
The coroner decided not to hold ap
inquest into the cause of the death of
H. R. Strickland, the man who died
from a gunshot wound, after being
brought here to the hospital for treatment.
This action on his part was in
view of the post-mortem statement
made by the deceased to the effect
that no one was to blame for his
death, that it was an accident that the
| gun was discharged, and there was
r thing except friendship between the
I parties before the fatal occurrence.

S. C., by the conference last week. He
has many friends at Conway in whose
hearts he has endeared himself by his
unflagging devotion to the work and
his kindness and sympathy extended
to all. They regret to see him leave;

The new moving picture show opened
up last Thursday' night and had a
packed house to "begin with. The man
agement advertised to the effect that
the sum of five dollars would be paid
for the suggestion of a suitable name
for the theatre. A card was handed
. to each person as they entered and on
this card they were ashed to write a
name and deposit the card with the
name of the person making the selection,
upon leaving the building.
, Nearly all of the people attending the
show that night thought out a name
and wrote it on the card.

Clemson College from the county demonstration
agents. In most sections
of the state more wheat is being sown
than ever before in the history of
those sections. Clemson's agents
have been conducting a grain and live
at-home campaign daily ever since the
outbreak of the European war and
effects are beginning to be noticed on
every side.
Wilmington Boy Dead.
Without regaining consciousness to
make a statement about his accident
in the motor cycle race last Thursday,
Zeddie D. Kelly, aged 19, died last Fri i
day morning in the St. Joseph hospi- '
tal at Savannah, Ga- His death makes <
