Battle and little daughter, Margaret, returned home last Saturday after spending a month in the -mountains of Western North Car olina. Mr. Adams, of 'North Carolina, recently accepted a position with the Conway 'Drug Company. He has hail live years experience in the drug business and is of very pleasant address. The property now belongs to the Farmers & Merchants Bank, this corporation having purchased it at a public sale last Spring. A new bank building will be erected or the corner of the property next *tc Laurel Street. Stores to rent will be included in the block. At a meeting of the Horry oCuivtj Cotton Congress ;it the court house last week, Messrs. Ha! L. Buck, W. L Bryan, and M. W. Wall were appointed as delegates to the State Congress rnecing in Columbia on the following day. They left on the early morning train last Thursday. The meeting las' week was held here on short notice There is another meeting of th< County Congress here today, Octobei 1st. The meeting today was advertis ed in our last issue. The Herald office last week receivee a lot of very fine apples from the farm of Mr. W. F. Hardee near Salen church. They were as fine as evei grew in this county. Mr. Hardee has eight trees all of the same variet> and tney are native to this section ol the State it seems. He had a quantity of this fruit for sale in Conway ? ^ Mares vs. Mules.
