To the Democratic Voters of Horry
County:
On account of important official bus
iness i was unable to be with you at
the State Campaign meetings. It
would have been a great pleasure for
me to b.ave addressed you at that time
but I felt that 1 eould not neglect the
duties of my olliee even to go before
you to give an account of my perform
ance of those duties.
I wish in this way to say that 1 appreciate
very much the support you
gave me two years ago, when I had
the honor of being* elected Attorney
General. 1 trust that my conduct of
the duties of the office lias been such
as to merit your continued support.
1 wish to call your attention to the
fact that during* the nineteen months
1 have held the office of Attorney General
and out of the appropriation for
the years 1912 and 1914, 1 have onl>
paid for the services of attorneys to
help conduct the legal business of the
State the sum of $125.90; $25.00 oi
this amount was paid an attorney to
take the place of one of the Solicitors
of the State in representing* the State
in a matter when that Solicitor was
at that time seriously ill; the other
amount, $100.00, was paid for the services
to the Confederate Home in

Assistant and 1 have performed the

That the law* has been enforced as
well under my administration, and 1
say with some modesty better than it
has been enforced heretofore, I call
your attention to the fact that the per
centage of convictions secured in the
Courts during my administration has
been greater than at any time during
the past ten years. I do not claim the
credit for this work except in the supremo
Court, the credit in the Circuit
Courts is, of course, due to your Solicitors.
The records will show that the office
during my administration of its affairs
has been prompt in the discharge
of all of its duties, especially
in giving attention to opinions requested
by the County Officers of the
State.
In this article I shall say nothing
against the gentleman who is opposing
me. I do not think it proper for
any candidate for office to attack in
the public prints his opponent, when
that opponent may not have the opportunity
to reply.
I am conducting my campaign just
as I conducted it two years ago, in a
fair, honest manner, without attempting
to injure any one.
If my services in the office of Attorney
General are approved by you
as I believe they will be, I shall ap

term.?adv. Respectfully,
Thos. H. Pceples.

WHAT THEY FIGHT FOR
Short Statement of What the Countries
of Europe are After
Austria is fighting' to put down agitation
for Slavic union among her
own subjects and to extend her influence
in the Balkans.
Servia is fighting for her national
( life against Austrian domination and
to free 6.000,000* Sechs, ^Vom the sway
of Austria.
Russia must protect her Slav brothI
ers in Servia and establish a command
I ing sphere of influence in the Near
, East.
Germany, Austria's ally, is sworn
to come to her aid when Austria is
attacked. More than this, Germany
. | must keep Russia from extending her
i power.
I France is an ally of Russia, and
, hopes always for the recovery of Alsace-Lorraine
from Germany.
I Great Britian, to preserve the balance
of power in Europe, must see to
it that the sea-power of her allies,
Russia and France, does not suffer at
Germany's hands. Germany is also
England's greatest naval rival.
In the Nursery. ^
The temperature of tho nursery
shoidd be about 05 degrees P. It is
wise to have a thermometer In tho
room. This precaution is well worth
taking, for a not infrequent cause of
dyspepsia In the very young is the
overheating of the nursery. The night
temperature should bo about 62 degrees
P. As the child grows older ft
is not necessary to keep the temperature
of the room above 58 degrees P.
The windows should always be well
opened when the child is absent from
the nursery and each evening before
tho child is put to bed. This practise
should be followed for a few minutes.
To socure adequate ventilation, if
there be an open fireplace, is not difficult,
either by having the window
opened very elightly at the top or by
means of the door. It is an excellent
idea where practicable to have an adjustable
ventilator in the window
itself. Currents of air are to be
avoided.
Constipation Causes Sickness
Don't permit yourself to become
constipated, as your system immediately

There is no better safeguard against
illness. Just take one dose to-night.
