The Horry Tobacco Warehouse will

out of every load sold on its floors.
Capt. Bowles is always there and gives

The tobacco sales at the warehouses
here last Thursday disposed of nearly
as much of the weed as before the
war scare came along. The prices
ranged from about four cents at some
of the warehouses to as high as sixteen
and seventeen cents.
A preliminery hearing was set for
August 11th in the court of Magistrate
W. H. Chestnut in the case of
the State vs. N. Mosely, on a warrant
sworn out by F. T. Mills for the
Kentucky Horse & Mule Co., of Wilmington,
N. C. The warrant charged
that certain property had been disposed
of under lien.
The Horry Tobacco Warehouse will
be greatly enlarged in time to handle
the next season's crop. Plans to this
end are already made. J. R. Bowles
will be with the business all this season
and will be with it next, if living.

One of the lots at Aynor, well situated
in the business portion of the
town, was recently sold by Mr. D. (1.
Spivey to Mr. E. A. Jordan at the
price of $900.00. A portion of this
lot will he sold to the Farmers State
Bank of Aynor who will enlarge their
quarters.
State Highway officials from fully
three-fourths of the State which
have state highway departments, will
meet to discuss questions of mutual
interest at the Fourth American Road
Congress, to he held in Atlanta during
the week of Nov. 9th.

The firm of Bordeaux & Nixon went
out of business last week. They had
been conducting a lunch room and
eating house, with rooms to let, in the
Masonic Hall on lower Main Street.
V. B. Summerlin, the former proprietor
of the place was in Conway. He
took hack the furniture and fittings
and made sale to another party.

preached an interesting and eloquent
sermon last Sunday at the Conway
Methodist Church.
Mrs Margaret McNeill Hunter gave
a linen shower last Monday in honor
of Miss Marjory Quattlebaum who
will be married in September.
Miss Fannie Burroughs spent last
week in the country visiting the families
of Messrs. Leon Burroughs and
Augustus Burroughs. She returned
the first part of this week.
Miss Sallie Hamilton of Dillon
spent last Saturday and Sunday with
Mrs. Fred Todd, and is spending this
week with a house party at MurrelPs
Inlet.

Charlie Powell is well remembered
here, having lived in Mullins up to

A New Store.
W. Boyd Jones of Justice spent 1
last week in Mullins, and it is rumored
that there is a probability cf l is
making this his home in the near fu
ture. In fact, Mr. Jones has launched
into the mercantile business in
Mullins. The store he has rented on ,
iviam street is in one of the busiest ,
sections of the town. Ed N. Jones,
formerly with Rasor & Clardy, will
manage the affairs of the new firm.
He opened the doors to the trading
public last Monday, and since then he
has had many of his friends to call

We wish to state that we are in
the warehouse business to stay, and
the report being circulated to the effect
that we are about to quit the tobacco
business, and will not be here
next season, is a malicious falsehood.

Joseph Green, a negro workman
was going down the river and riding
on top of a lighter load of lumber,
and it is said had gone to sleep.
While partly asleep, it is supposed
that he fell ofl and he was drowned.
The drowning took place last Thursday.

The news article in our issue of
last week concerning the children ot
Frank Nobles has caused a lot of
trouble to Judge Vaught, for he has
received dozens of letters from people
anxious to take one or more of the
children. By the time the letters
reached him, however, he had appoint
ed J. W. Kullwood, the grandfather of
these children as guardian for them,
Mr. Fullwood having succeeded in get
ting Messrs. J. M. Stalvcy and W. B.
Claredy to sign his bond for him.
Those two gentlemen are fully responsible
and it will insure that these
children are well taken care of.
Mr. Vaught was not responsible for
the article in any way and was not in
town when published and did not suggest
it to any one.
