Kagsdale was seen today and asked if it was true, as charged by former Representative Ellerbe at Georgetown Monday, that he had contributed $50 to the Roosevelt funds in 1904. The Congressman replied: "If his charge is true that I have con- j tributed I will r.ot ask the support of any Democrat in the 0th district. It is absolutely false. The best answer to his other charge that I have been blacklisted at the White House is ' that I have recently been there scv- | eral times, and that I made an engagement for last Monday to present, the name of Judge Woods to the Pres ident for the Supreme Court vacancy but cancelled the engagement on re- j ceiving a letter from the Judge's nephew stating the Judge declined to ; allow the presentation of his name. "I had made arrangements to go to South Carolina tonight in order to be ' at Kingstrect," said Mr. Ragsdale, i "but decided to stay over to attend a ! joint meeting of the House and Sen- j ate rural credit committees, which will be addressed tomorrow by Mr. 1 David Lubin, the famous authority on this question. I expect to get into ( the campaign in the next few days." I Mr. Ragsdaie was at the White House again this afternoon, but would not say what was the purpose of his j call. Elerbe Explains To the Editor of the News and ; Courier: There are some errors in the account of the Georgetown meeting. I said: "If you could believe o what members of congress said Mr. Ragsdaie had been refused admission to the White House for the purposes of consultation." I did not assert that Mr. Ragsdaie had contributed to the Roosevelt campaign fund. I said I did not know of my own knowledge anything about it, but that the record showed the name of J. W. Nobody ought to be allowed on the stand except candidates, officers of the county Democracy, newspaper men, a preacher and men known to be officers of the law in the community in which the meeting is being held.
