Mr. Ham?r is a well-known lawyer of Benlettsville, S. C., where he was a Dartncr with Col. Thomas Hamer un;il about two years ago, the latter | vas elected as clerk of the court. Since that time A. L. Hamer has jeen practicing on his individual account, and he has many friends in Malrboro county both professionally and socially. He was graduated from the University of South Carolina, at Columbia in the class of 1907, in which he distinguished him # o self. He is a man of line address. He spent several hours here last week meeting several of his friends who will stick by him in this race. Sore Eyes Caused by Face Powder. Face powder has its dangers the same as gunpowder. For several years occasional cases have come under the observation of oculists in which the patients, invariably women, complain of vision being blurred, inability to use the eyes for any length of time and severe itching of the lids. The slightest rubbing of the lids produces a marked redness of the eyes and only aggravates the itching. In severe cases the lids are frequently swollen from constant rubbing. K. Skipper and G. C. Butler jr., both of Loris, S. C., spent last Thursday in Conway, coming over from Loris byway of automobile. The first candidate's card apears in this issue of the Herald. Others will no doubt soon make their announcements to the public. Miss Gussie Vaught was home recently after graduating from the Business College in Columbia. She returned the first of last week to Columbia where she has accepted a position. Messrs. J. M. Johnson and L. I). Lide, of Marion, the former a well known civil engineer and the latter cnc of the leading attorneys of Marion county, spent some time here on business last week. Several parties are now talking strong about the establishment of a moving picture show in Conway to be run along modern lines, and in such manner as to furnish amusement to the people during idle hours. There are two of them in operation in the Herald office, or rather the second one will be in operation in a few. days They are forrsale by the Southern Saw & Machinery Works, Atlanta, Ga. A claim and delivery suit -was brought last week i n the court of Magistrate W. H. Chestnut by Will Thompson as plaintiff against G. B. Jenkins. The suit concerns a mule which was sold to a party by Jenkins Bros., and later traded ofr by the person who gave a bill of sale thereon to Jenkins Bros., to secure the pur chase money. Will Thompson finally got the animal in a trade without looking up therccords to sec if the property was clear. A little later the animal was taken away from him under the hill of sale.
