I left South Carolina on January 16th. Ianivedat Neel's Crossing, Fla., on the 17;h and from there 1 went to Monticello, Fla., thence to Thoma8ville, Ga. I went out into the neighborhood and preached for the people. They seemed to enj >y it, one old lady saying it was the best preaching sher ever heard in twenty years. I also preached in Florida. Some of the people wanted me to stay. Some people I find like the old time religion and somo like the still born kind that never disturbs the multitude on the way to Jerusalem. One womau said she was as good as those who shouted. I speak from experience: I know what makes people shout. It is when they die to sin and are made alive to God, born of the v\ater and of the spirit. Dear Reader, if you know any more about the heart-felt religion than 1 do tell the people how you got it and then I can tell how T got mine. It is loud preaching, Itis the way Andrew brought his brother to Jesus. One more % word about the land of IHwers. When I got there my health improved. JetTerson county where my ehildrea live is high red clay hills, deep wells and good water. There is not much work except farming. They raise corn, cotton, sweet potatoes and sugar cane in abundance. C., THURSI flp Is Brought by Henry Rouse Against Wife and Son, SIX YEAR OLD CHILD Some Months Ago From the House of Henry House Near Bayboro in This Cou nty,?Ofllcer Went After Defend ants in North Carolina. Sheriff J. A, Lewis the first of this week sent a deputy sheriff to a small North Carolina town to brintf over to this State, the wife of Henry Liouso and his son Benjamin House, under warrants charging the two with abducting from this State a six year old adopted daughter of Rouse, It seems that trouble along this line has been brewing among the Rouse family for some time. Tho child in question was given to Rouse by its fatner before his deatn, and from that time several vearu aimnh. j ?.?. w til last year, tho child lived with Kouse. Finally Mr. and Mrs. Rouse parted, Mrs. Rouse went to LumberIon, N. C. Sometime after going she sent tho son lieu do<vn to the Rouse place and he took all of tho children and arrived at Chadbouru with them, when they were overtaken and the children were brought bacK. Later Mrs, Rouse and lien slipped back to the Rouse place in Rouse's absence and they then succeeded in taking with them the adopted child as well as other children of Rouse. Recently the abduction proceedings were started with tho resulting arre.3t as above stated, Rouso is only trying to get | back the little adopted daughter, ! wh jse name is said to be Costie Rouse. Tne Rouses lived in the neighborhood of Bayboro near, the place of O. M. Watts. Mew Business Started. Following the news of the con solidation of the Bank of Horry, Conway Savings Bank and the First National Bank of Conway, there was strong talk last week of the organization of a Dew bank, those interest ea ana mentioned in connection with it beiDg J. These gentlemen stated that they would not make this move in opposition to the existing financial institutions here, but were going into it on a strictly basis expecting to do a ligitimate business on their own merits and with a view to try to supply a growing town and surrounding country with the financial needs demanded. When the news was Hashed through the neighborhood bearing the sad intelligence of the death of Mr. W. A. Bell, profound sorro.v was expressed by a hott of friends and relatives. He came to Horry County in 1859 and has resided here ever since, except his four years seryice in the Civil War. lie was one of the lirst to voluntjer 1 nd ofl'or hi3 service to his country. He enlitt d at Ft. Caswell and joined Company C. 18 h N C Troops and took part in every engagement in which that noted regiment participaljd. He was in the line of pickets at Chancellorsville when Gen. Stonewall Jackson was mortally wounded, la the battle of Gettysburg he was knocked senseless by a flying missile. His comrades retreated and left him for dead but be revived and was captured and taken to Ft. Delewaro as a prisoner of war. No more valiant sorviee was rendered the Confederacy thau by him He was actuated by broad patriotic impulses in heeding the call of his country. He was brave in battle, oblivious of danger, but gentle and unassuming among his follow men. After the war he came back home t) resume his vocation of farming "Across the fields he takes his way to till the fertile soil. From war's alarms to ways of peace, from camp to earnest toil." In 1807 he married Miss Temperance Belinda Lay of Pireway, N. C , To them were born seveu sons and one daughter, all of whom are living except one son. His sons are Messrs. B E, W T, O J, J L, Robt. anl J C Bell and daughter, Mrs T U Perraenter. He is survived by his widow, one sister Miss Anne Bell and one brother, Rev Thos Bell of Wampce. In his death the Wampeo section loses one of iis honored landmarks and the County one of its sturdy yeomanry. He was a constructive force. His iLlluence for good in his community will live for generations. Ho was sincere of purpose, honest in dealing, considerate of others opinions and charitable in passing judgement. Trickery, intrigue and underhand methods of doaling found no lodgement in his breast. Calmly he learned t;> bear the perplexities and vexations of life. He was imbued with a desire to assist thoso in need. He was largely interested in farming and merchandising. He planed wisely for his children and left them a conpetency, but h's greatest legacy is a noble character and a good name which will inspire them to emulat* his virtues. Hj was a devout christian. H's trust in tiod was unwavering. Hs faith in Christ was unshakable. His spiritual structure was not built upon silver, precious stones, wood, bay or stubblr, but was founded upon the eternal rock of ago*, Jesus Christ. His last words vseru quotations from the B bl . He was born at Morohead City, N. C., Aug. 3rd, 1841, and died at Warn pee on February 20th. Ho was hurried in the cemetery at Bell's Chapel on February 2Kth in the presence of a large assembly.
