55 a VOL XXV14I. mm' Brought Against Him in Marriage Matter. RIV. J. H. STANLEY. Well Known Former Citizen of Loris Section Writes in Answer to the Many Tales of Cossip About Certain Matters,---Writes From Chadbourn, N. C., His New Home. As there springs up so much clash tr.d t ilk about try two mar riuges in a manner that no honest, law-abiding man would like, 1 decided that 1 would write a few facts abouc the matter, so that my friends would know just how it all was. Now, soon alter I was married, there sprung up a repoi t that I was living with another man's wife Well, I went up to North Carolina where this woman lived and searched for a record of her marriage and could not find anything except her and one Mr. Peterson About eiglr, or nine years ago I went over to South Carolina and went back and wc lived together for the period of fifteen months, then he carried he r back to her father's and left her there and weLt back to New Jer*#y where he came from, and now you can see what the people's talk sttr .ed from, She no v has the 01 lv record of her marriage in life, which was t me on November 21) b 11)13 vit i the Clerk of C urt at Conway, S. C. Some of my own people whom I thought would have bothered any one else be fore me, began to pick on me in the church about living in adultery. I t )ld them that 1 could not see that 1 was and did not feel so, for I married the woman cf my choice under and by the iiceoso iws of South Carolina. They pushed the pa?o against me in the church, with in ma'erial evidence, orlv a letter from Peterson saying that he ?n *rrhd her J told the church if they counted that as evidence sufliclent to drop me, to do so, so wjih a minority of the church present, they dropped me. They say now that I am out of ihe church, but I want to say to all Christians that I am with them as I always was. Now, we do set up a denial of the charge of living in adultery as they say, because if she ever was married t) this man there is pes tively no rocoul of it, I think that I have been treated vpry wrong, for you know that I have ever stood for the right and always expect too. 1 have raised and supported a helpless family by hard honest worx, and this no man can deny. J did ac the Lord wculd have it, got a woman thet has nicely filled the place of a wife and a mother and this is good enough for me. I now live in my new home in North Carolina and veil satisfied. My friends can icach mc by fetter. % f J. II. Star lev, Chadbouru, N. C. Route 1, Box 23*. Obituary.
