We will have for this Convention

Pearce is ono of toe greatest Sunday School
experts in the world. It is (
seldom that one has an opportunity
to hear him except at a State Convention.
By all means do not miss
this privilege. There will be other i
members of Mr. Pearce's tour party ,
that will come with h m to Conway,

the convention, but invite all those
interested in the Sunday School
cause in any way. What wo waLt
is to roach and help every Suuday
School in the County. The convention
is interdenominational. Our |
effort is to help all who are working
in the common cause of teaching the
Bible. What helps you helds your
denomination. Do you catch tho
idea? The way then to help your
denomination is to come to the Convention,
learn all you can about tho
work, and then go back homo and
make your own individual Sunday
School the better. If you will do
that, the Convention will have accomplished
its object, and your
school will be the gainer.
To the Superintendents: You will (
receive in an early mail a return post
card asking for certain information, i

so all you need to do is to
fill out the blanks and drop in the

tell you at the Convention how to
start about it. Be sure and bring
as many of }Our teachers with you
as possible.
Those pledges at the last County
Convention to the work are asked
to send in jtny balance due on same

Remember, tbat there is but one
Sunday before the Convention. Be
sure therefore t) make arrangements

audience from all over the County.
The date is Saturday and Sunday,

SMOKING CIGAKKTTKS
How to Stop the Habit by Simple and
Inexpensive Means.
BY ALBERT DEEMS BETTS
Thousands of men and boys would
like to quit, but they can't. They
aro enslaved by the habit. On rare
occasions a boy will through sheer
force of will quit Bat uiost ci^aietfce
users need help,
Sujh help is now v..thin your
reach. Go to your physician or
drutf^isl and ^et a silver nitrate solution
(one-eighth of one per cent.)
aud wash out ycur inout.i with it.
It won't hurt you, and you won't
want to smoke either. Try if.
The Anti-Cigarette League (coin
uionly known as the A. C, L.) is
publishing this wondeiful discovery
tj the world and thousands of tobaeoo
users are tiudiug it t j be a Godsend.
The following clipped from
"The Cuut.neut" is intensely iutetinteresting:
"Dr. D. 11. Kress, general feeretary
of the Ai t.-Cigarette League,
who has forsaken his practlco to devote
a large share ol hisatteution to
this newly established work, d oo.->
not claim the ored t for the disc >very
of this cure, The details of fhe
mouth wash were in laet published
in 11)08, buo attracted little at.cation.
Through the treatment of a
cancerous mouth of a patient a number
of years.sgo the uttentiou of Dr.
Kies was focused upon this chemical
solution as an aid in taking away
iho desire lor tobaeeo. He already
nau observed that habitual smokers
are large consumers of t.u, cntl'ee,
meats aud highly seasoned foods.
He found that when a man limns ids
diet to milk, baked cereals and lru.ti.
desire for tobacco is very much
lessened. Combination of attention
to diet with itic silver n.trate moot i
wash cols ilutes the basis of the
cure."
The same journal gives a very illuminating
discussion of tho bad
cfleets of the cigareit), or rather
the source from which those bad
tlTeets come: "Kecc-nt scientilie investigation
aud examination of the
smoke nreduced hv the hurninir of
a cigarette show that the nicotineol
the cigarette is far les&viruleut than
are the carbonic oxide and other pro
ducts of its combustion. The loose
itructure of the cigarette is said to
cause the product.on of this poisonous
gas. Carbonic oxide thus enters
the blood through the lungs and the
damage done is direct proportion to
the quantities inhaled. Acrolein is
auotoer of the drugs produced by
the burning of cigarette paper. It
is this that makes the smoke irritating,
Aciolein in considerable
quanities is extremoly dangerous.
It is said by doctors that the constant
irritatiou of the nervous system
of the young especially by
cigarettes causes restlessness auu
inability to consentrate taought."
A recent issue of Collier's Weekly
gave an illustrated Comedy with a
Serious Purpose, in which Dr. Kress
mopped the throat of a messenger
boy with this solution. The boy olid
not know what he was doing it for.
But on getting out of the door the
boy from force of habit lit a cigarette.
No sooner lhau done ho threw
it down in disgust and took to his
j heels down the itreet. This cure
ceitaiuly works.
Dr. Kress gives the following rules
to those who want t j stop smoking:
1. Determine that you want to
stop.
2. Wash your mouth after each
meal for three days with a silver
nitrate solution (one-eighth of one
per cent.)
3 When a desire for smoking appears
chew gentian root. 5j worth
will lai t a long while.
\ 4. For the first two weeks after
beginning treatment make your
meals of fruits, well-baked cereal
foods, and milk. Buttermilk or malt
ed milk may be used in place of toa
or coffee.
5. The typical city man's lunch of
a ham sandwich, liberally covered
with mustard, and a cup of coffee
must bo abolished in favor of a more
nourishing and less stimulating moa)
6. Tutkish baths assist in geitiu^
rid of the stored up nicotine.
The great maprity of our toys tc
day are being terribly dwarfed in
mind and body through the cigar
ette habit. This simple remedy wil
effect a cure and is in the re ach o
all.
