The case of Vereen vs. Horry
, County is an interesting one. A few
vears ago, Mr. Edgar A. Vereon was
t irown from his wagon while driving
along the public road in Socastje,
by reason of his wagon wheel falling
into a deep rut. He struck on his
head and later died from his injuries.
The suit is brought under the statute
which makes the county liable in

The case of Auderson vs. Conway
Lumber Co.. grows out of the death
of the late Mr. Harley Andersou at
the plant of the company, and the
ci i cum stances of which were published
in this paper at the time. The
suit was brought by his widow as
administratrix of his 63tatc\
In Jordan vs. the Atlantic Coast
Line Railroad Co., the plaintiff will
ask for damages to his arm received
by being thrown from the door of a
car while loading a wagon with feitiliz.ifs.

Farmers who Have Stock in the New
Institution.
As will be seen by reference to a
notice of the books of subscription
appearing elsewhere in this issue, a
new bank to be known as tho Farmers
& Merchantj Bank of Conway,
will be organized here tomorrow,
with a capital stock of $35,000 00,
divided into 110 shares of the par
valu e of the sum of $25 00 each.
Application for the charter wil
have already been made when this
issuo of the papers is mailed, and
the institution will occupy one of
the brick buildings on 3rd Avenue,
occupiod just at this time by 11. W.
Lewis. This lot had been purchased
by Mrs Lewis from A. C. Thompson.
The former resold it to W. li. Lewis
L. 11. Burroughs, W. B. Chestnut,
and W. W. Buss, who will hold the
property temporarily and convoy it
to tho capital stock of tho new bank.
Among the subscribers to tho capital
stock of tho new bank appear
many of the leading business men of
the town and of the surrounding
towns and in the country many
farmers have ti kon one or more
shares of tho stock.
The building above referred to as
the property of the bank will be renovated
and some neccossary alterations
made, and a substantial vault
will be provided for the safe keeping
of tho funds. The stand selected
is among the business section
of Conway, and it will be about
half'way between Main Street |
and the court house.
Boy Scouts Friday Night.
The Boy Scouts will meet in the
Armory on Friday uight, Oct. 10th,
at 7 o'clock. It is important that
every scout should be there. Plans
are being made to purchase scout
suits at once so the troop can be in
the parade during the Horry County
Fair. All boys who wish to join
the organization are requested to
attend this meeting on Friday night, i

a number of debt* and they were
insisting upon payment and pushing
him it is said.

DEATH OF C. L. ABRAMS
A Well Known Citi/.en (liven up the

Charlos L. Abrams, a well known j
business man of Conway died last
Monday at 2 o'clock at his residence.
The interment took place at Lakeside
Cemetery on Tuesday, lie is
survived by his wife and three children,
Mr. W. J. Abroms, and Misses
Sarah and Pearl, all of Conway, two
brothers, Jamos Abrams, now of
Conway, and Benjamin Abrams of
Florida.

the kindlyness of his nature, and
the friendship that he carried for all
he knew. For a long number of
years he conducted a business in tho
town to which be was faithful until
his health failed him several years
ago. He fought the malady with
fortitude and a degree of cheerful
ness that won the sympathy of the
entire community. Ho was married
to Miss Josephine Leo at tho residence
of the late J. W. Sanders on
July 20th, 1888. His father came to
Conway many years ago where he
oatablished himself in the shoemakers'
trade. Charlie was born here
on July l'Jth, 1851).
