The Case Against Rabil
and Bruton is Dismissed,
THE ACCOUNT CHANGED
Mysterious Circumstances Come out
in the Hearing of the Case Against
Rabil and his Clerks Before M igistrate
Chestnut,?Court Held no Evidence
Sutlicient to Hind.
The larceny charge brought by
Mrs. Alice Register against J. F.
Uibll, a Syrian merchant, one of his
Syrian clerks, and Alecs Bruton,
also a clork, was hoard before Magistrate
Chestnut last Saturday, and
tho case dismissed. The matter
created some interest, because it
appeared in tlie testimony that tho
bill of a pile of tobacco, the proceedb
of which it was claimed Rabil stole,
was lost with the money, and the
amount of the tobacco thereon and
the price per pound had been changed
on the sale tag, and the representative
of the Imperial Tobacco
Co., wautjd to sec the account of
sales to see if it too had boon
changed
Mrs. Register testified that sho
got a check attached to the account
ofsa e3 at Ije warehouse and went
to tae bunk where tho check was detached
and she collected $81.00 the
amout-t of tho check. In ths presence
of hftl' son li TV Rncrieloi< nnrl
J. R. Johnson, she rolled up the
currency inside of this sales account
rolling or twisting the ends so that
the money could not be soen, placed
the package in her hand bag, and
with Tj. U. Rogistor wer.t to Rabil's
it ire. In the store were Rabil and
the two clerks and a colorod man
trading for a suit of clothes in the
back of the store. Mrs. Register
bought some embroidery from Rabil
he on the inside of the count ir, she
on the outside. Iu the bottom ol
the hand bug was some small change
She took out a note book, the
package containing the currency,
and some other articles and laid
thorn all in a pile on the counter,
got t ie smtil change out, paid Rabi
and turned to ono side to look at a
shiit waist lying on the counter,
having lirsb placed her things back
in the bag, Rabil placed the bundles
back in the shelf and went into the
back of the store. Just after the
tmngs were placed oacs in me oa^,
Mr L. B. Register, according tj her
testimony, loft the store to water a
mule. Sho then stopped a few minvtes
at the front of ino store and
finally went t^the grocery storo of
A. C. Thompson. There she and
Ij. B. Remitter were met by the
representative of the Imperial Tobacco
Co., who wanted to see the
account sales. On looking into her
ba^' it or tho money could not be
found.
The tobacco man, Mr. Capps, test
ified that before the sale he took
down the (inures on the as bein?j
380 pounds of lea'. Aft 31* toe sale,
too figures and price had been
robbed out, and tho quanity appeared
as 180 pounds and the price also
changed, lie had wanted to seo the
amount of sales. He refused intake
the pile of tobacco for his company,
and on last Saturday it was still
lyin?? 011 tho floor.
Automoime Accident
What camo near a serious accident
last Saturday night happened
at the residence of J W Taylor
on upper Main Strott.
Messrs Taylor. W 11 Howell, Ben
Sessions, H W Lf wis and a Mr
Bland were riding in a Ford machine,
and intended to stop just at
the turn to let Mr, Taylor get out

wrong with the machine and the
wheels on the left side caught
against the curbing and were
crushed, the occupants of the car be
ing thrown out, with exception of
Mr llowell who rammed an arm
through the windshield, and hung
up in it. As good fortune had it,
none of the party were injured beyond
a good shaking up. This oc

they waiving the hearing after the

reservation as to Frame Anderson,
as to whom tho testimony showed
no blame, but rather that he used
his influnce to prevent a row among
the other parties. This case had
been reported as a very bud one,
especially as tho prosecutor had
been cut with a knife, but the testimony
showed that there was fault
