Woodward, Conway, S C M A 1* IL J 1 1- THURSDAY, AUG. 7th., 1913. * The board of health has beet, watchful this year in the matter of sanitation. The board has had the help cf the town authorities, tincivic league and the citizens generally. Now we hope this will he kept up for all timo to come. No use li make a good start just after a *8 vere warning and theu get carelest until misfortune comes again. * * * ^ /* * The business men of Conway ought lo pull together every yoar to make Conway the biggest tobacco markei in the State#. There is every chance in the world to do it, owing to thtaituation of tho town and the large i area of country surroundiLg the I town where the soil suits tobacco and produces a line grade of the leaf. Time has been when the busin e.is inon of Conway were doing more than thoy are now in trying to make | a big market for tobacco hero. WL13 it is that lhey forget the imparlance of this is more than we can explain. * # * There is a proueness in the time of youth to think nothing of later life, and to make no provision fo it any way. The young man ai.u the young woman will show thai they are full of the springtime am enjoyment of life and health, bu? what they sometimes do leads to tht conclusion that they are forgetful of the influence their present colcucb and habits may have on the rest of tLeir earthly history. Why will they not realize that it is verj important to their after life thai their health andenorgy be prescrveu and carefully guarded against wastt and dissip..;icn? Why will they not reii.uu er in all their gaiety that while they have plenty of this world's goods bestowed upon them by loving Darentu or uha^Uo.-q _ ? . ?? ? - h?iuiui.j, ?uai this source of their supplies may fail them, and that it is necessary to make themselves self supporting? Ap?.iu why do they somotimGs fur#et that some little irreKulai iety some little act of impropriety, i? likely to be misconstrued and theii character and lives blasted for al time? Xc, 60c, $LQC 1 ' f It is hard for an honest god-fearing man tocomc to the conclusion in his mind, that there are some pooplo in the world who have no regard for the sanctity of an oath. It is hard for us to believe that a man in the sight of his makor will swear on the Holy Bible to tell the truth, and nothing but the truth, and then in the next breath speak out that which is not truth, but tho rankest of false hood. There are such people and to become acquainted with them, one only has to follow up the courts for a while aud then judge for himself just how many of the witnesses called there havo that conscientious regard for their sworn testimony that they ought to have. U has been long understood that solf interest plays an important part in the dcings of men, and especially is this the fact when they are to gain or j lose by the cvont of a law suit that I is pending ou their testimony they think will decide the case, Uut wc are thankful that there arc men and plenty of them, who cover let theii uwn interests influence them when it coinos to telling the truth. Such men will lose all that they have in the world, even allow their private character to be dragged in the dust, and their inner selves bared to the world at large, before they will utter one single untruth to advance their own interests. Truth is mighty. It is always the best policy in the long run. Watch the men who are willing to go on the stand aud tell lies in their own behalf to i i ? suve tnetr own cases, or watch them when thoy go cn the stand to testify for pay in behalf of somebody else who is as mean as thoy ar.d who it willing to buy f dse evidence to win, and you will readily see that thest are not the men who play the mos .mportant part in the world. Nt, they are not the people who have U ? most and achievo the most in tl : life. Thoy generally belong to class who barely make a living b playing on others. From this vs can learn the lesson that many ha\i already learned, which is that i does not pay to live or act falseh out always to stick to the truth, and live and act the truth. Nx man is so smart in this world that ue can lead a false life, rotten at neart and holding himself out to tin world as an honest and spuaredea'ing man, and not be found out in the end for the fraud that ho is. He mty prosper for a time, but retribufcion is his portion sooner or laUr. and when it comes it comes hard. {3^^he'treat VY&WW wdcomcd, by 'f<Qm |||ljffi Delicious? Thirst-1 Demand tl Sod. R?'u" !
