H. Wood ward, Conway, S C a ii - l THURSDAY, JULY 3rd,, 1913. u 'i c Anything that is intended to be ' i t>crtiluueut anu remain for inanj I' years, maybe for a life time, serving | a useful purpose to mankind, must I be planned cut and established witfc I I j all of these in view, In no other way I i6 it safe to invest either time or I money in it. * * ? A high straight road to Myrtle Beach from this point would do more sfo iwerwre# the number of automo^ biles in Horry County than any thing else we can think of just at J, this time. Get busy and talk this I road, for besides aut09, it will help I bring to Conway maay more things L * * i * I The one great need of Conway is ' plenty of water and the means to t use it it better sanitation and pro- * lection against the possible ravages * of lire. It is an important matter t for tho constant consideration ol I those in charge of tho city govern- c ment, Tackle the problem like busi- 1 nets men and stick to it until this p necessity has been supplied, 1 * * I 1 * I . Although wo have to say a word now and then concerning the lack of tome particular improvement in Conway, we still have to praise the | town authorities and the board of \ health for many wise things that they do, and the improvements that 1 they make and tho plans that are laid for insuring the health, peace \ and comfort of the people. Look at tho closets. # * V y If you will notice it, the years c jlj when tho tanners are discouraged ( 'with the curly condition of the crops, 0 the lack of rains, the inroads of insects, and many like troubles, are generally the years when they make ^ better crops than over. On the other hand the years when things look promising beyond the ordinary ^ and ??ry farmer is looking upward J? in expectation of the most abundant ol crop* of his life, are apt to be the ^ years when ho is doomed to sad dis appointment. So it brings home j.) the truth that it is impossible to tell what fortune has in store. We can c only keep on sawing wood and 9ay rc nothing. Fj No threat work should over be iodertaken without the most carrul preparation. This is very im)ortant even in small matters ?ven in performing the most simple jperatlous of daily life, care has to >e exercised or earnost cft'orts may ;ouie to nothing in the matter of -esults. * * * Many farmers wero doubtle* ' worried by the cold wave and lor.g rainy spell whice strnck this part o the country recently. But it is best never to worry. Saw wood and say | nothing is the best policy. Thero is something on the farm to be done svery day in the year whether fair ;>r rainy. When the farmer cannot <et into his Ileitis he can work under the shelter of his barns and sheds, lud it is just as important work. Let the weather do what it pleases, bu< you just keep on sawing and say nothing. At the end of the year the results will be worth the tlTort. * * * As the Summer advances draw the ines tighter against the invasion of .he homo by (he mosquitoes and tlx louse flies. The man who said that icreens were useless, and advocator ho taking out of thern to ad mil resh air, as recently set forth in a nagazine published in the North eas and still is a fool. Ho knows lothing of what lie is talking about Monty of fresh air is admitted hrough the meshes of the screens, ,ud if they are right and placed in lorrectly, no lly or roosquito can get hrough. Science is proving more ,nd more the fact that many of tlx nost serious diseases known to man ire carried by insects. That mos initoes and (lies carry diseases war irst known, and others are under nvestigation now. Take advantage >f what has been learned by others. * * * The Herald will issue coupons to subscribers, each new one and each renewal, which coupons the holders may exchange at Norton Drug Com pany's for votes in the grand piano contost we are now running There will bo a lively race in this contest, and to the hustler will belong the spoils. Each young lady in the contest ivill lind that she has something jf value to olTer to anyone who wishes to assist her in this matter, ay telling them that for the sum el jne dollar they may receive this saper ono year, and that in turn sh> will get the benefit of 11000 votes in ,his contest. The friend who helps ler out will get value received many limes over for his or her money, for he paper is worth fully two dollars )9r year, the price at which man\ iountry papers, not half so good air low being sold. If the friend of Li., lontestant does not want to take tin laper, he can take advertising in the derald which will pay him, or if 1 e leeds any stationary, he can go' i tere, and that of the very b st to U lad anywhere.
