On last Thursday in tho Adriau
section of this county, the young
child of Mrs. Emma Brown, just
lar^'e enough to toddle about, reached
up to a table and turned over a
bowl of hot chicken broth, the contents
pouring on the child's shouler,
breast and arm, and taking clT
the skin. The child was brought at
once to the office of Dr. Norton
where the child's injuries were
bound up and treated. The baby is
uu orphau, its father having died
last Winter, and it with its mother
were living at this time with the
mother's sister, Mrs. W. J. Todd.
Some of the family were ill ou the
d iv of the occurrence. Mrs Brown
had prepared a quantity of chicken
soup for the rick ones and had

the table. As the mother went to
some other part of the room, the
child reached up and pulled ever the
soup, It was boiling hot. h< i.ue the
severe injury that it received. There
was a targe patch of the skin aud
muscles on the cbPd's breast that
had the appearance of being cooked
The accident occurred at about 10
o'clock.

* Ross Parker of Bucks Township is
Bitten by Dog and Precaution
Taken.
On last Sat urday Mr Ross Parker,
a son of Mr P. M. Parker, was bitten
on the hand by a dog belonging
to the widow Brown in Bucks township.
The dog was in the habit c!
running and barking after people
who passed along the road. Young
Parker was on his way to Mrs
Brown's when the dog ran to rneel
him. As the cleg passed he snapped
and bit Mr. Parker on the hand. A
physician was consulted and under
his advice the head of the dog was
shipptd lo Columbia last Monday tc
be tested for rabies. If the germs
are found, the patient will bo taker
to Columbia for treatment.
Early Cotton Bloom.
The Herald is in roeeipt of at

crop of W L Vaught, at Vaught, S.
C. Owing to only two mails pei
week, this early oloom could not be
sent in soonor. It was ooen on Jun?
22nd, The family of Mr Vaught hac

ton bloom came from a patch of twc
and one half acres, and the corr
from a patch of two acres.

in readiness for business, and has
advertised its opening sale to take
place on July 10th. The tobacco
farmers are especially invited to

it has in tho past, and Capt. J. K
Bowles will be there to look after

has been in Conway and in the
county for quite a while working

Mr and Mrs J F Dusenbury and
Master Frank jr., left here last week
on their return journ y 10 thoir
home at Pen9acola, Fla., after spend
ing several weeks hero with relatives
of Mr Dusenbury. They will not
return direct, but will spend some
time along the way, and will be in
Charleston for a short while. Mr
Dusenbury is a brother of Messrs
Charles Dusenbury and C B Dusenbury,
Capt R G Dusenbury and Dr.
J S Dusenbury, til of Conway. He
left Horry County when a much
younger mar. and found employ
ment in Georgia with one of the
largest naval stores concerns in
that State. He finally became a
member of the firm, and he has made
a business record of which his many
friends in this county are very
proud.

A message from Aynor yesterday
stated that John T. Johnson, a
prominent farmer, has been found
dead in the woods near that place,
and the coroner was wanted to hold
an inquest The coroner wont at once,
