and before we went to bed ho told
me that ho was Past Master of The
Happy Sons of Rest, and he also
told me that ho was a brother-in-law ,
of one of our present Congressmen.
1 asked him if I could be a member <
of ? hat order. Ho said 1 could if I (
could or would take ihe oath. When (
he told ine the oath, I backed. He ]
said all the moneyed men were members,
the railroad men, state and ,
county cllicors, Lawyers, Doctors t
a id all Preachers. lit? said that the j
mjmbei's must be furnished with a
plenty of anything that they want
by the non members, free of charge, *
and ihat if a inomber is known to
work for anything he needs, he is
dropped at the next meeting. lie
staid with me till after dinner next
day. T took him out to the depot,
free of charge. On our way we got
up with a member and he gave that
member the distress sign. After
we left, the man, he ex planed to me
that he had just got back from head
quarters with the now pass word,
and distress sign.
