Except in rainy weather the
streets in the business part of
Conway are certainly the dustiest
places in the world. With a small
out-lay in a street sprinkler, this
might be prevented.

The corner stone of a new church
was laid with fitting ceremonies
recently, and this church when finished
will add one more to the places
of worship in Conway, The town
would be hard to beat in the matter
of haudsome churches anyway.

Some of the newspapers stated
that the cool weather in June was a
record breaker for the 10th of that
month. Nature is a strange thing
and yet not strange. There have
been cool waves in ihe June months
before far back in the memory of
our forefathers. It is rea'ly not a
strange thing that the cool snap
should come on the 10th, in place of
other days upon which it had come
before.

The Hammer Lumber Company
has been operating in Horry County
for nearly ten years, having a iniil
at Little River, S. C. The Company
is managed by honest business men
who have not failed
vu uicav lairiy.
Tbey already owned large tracts of
timber in Little River township, but
recently a deal was closed whereby
ihey acquired a traot of 2000 acres
known as the DulTy land owned by
the Gardner & Lacey Lumber Co.
Tuis will keep their mills runnirg
for at least another ten year period,
and we have no doubt but what this
enterprising company will continue
to have much to do With the Indus'
trial development of that section of
Horry Counly,

The exercise of lynch law, which
is of course no law at all, is deplored.
One of the causes that lead to its
use is the lack of energy on the part
of those whose duty it is to investigate
crimes and misdemeanors and
prepare themselves to convict the
accu < d persons when they come to
trial iu the court of justice, The
mob is an unruly thing. It springs
from the masses of the people and
grows and swells in numbers as
passions inflame the minds of the
rabble. Often publio sentiment is

free after his acquittal, the people
who believe in their hearts that the

first opportunity to buzz, Such
things aro with us and must be
handled to the best of our ability
But the best thing to do is to impress
it upon the ofticers of the law
and tho courts, that no stone must
ever be loft unturned in tho prosecu
tion and conviction of those who are
guilty of high crimes, and by reason
of tho full performance of their
duty in this respcet, the paopb will
soon learn to depend upon the courts
of law to do justice and to do it
swiftly.
