Remarkable improvements have
been made in Conway during the
five years recently pissed. A visitor
in the town last week said that
he had been absent from the town
for a period of four years, and that
the changes during that timo wore
remarkable.

The heavy losses by fire to Ihe
Atlantic Coast Lumber Corporation
at Georgetown last week was fully
covered by insurance, It is stated
upon good authority that operations
for replacing tho lost property are

this is resulting in positive loss to

be assembled together without interfering
with their daily business.
The board very often has to take,
or docs take, snap judgment in matters
coming before them, and they
often act without making a thorough
examination. Many times in the J
past the board of health in Conway
has acted impulsively, taking drastic
action interfering with the rights
of others, in such a way as to injure
the ir: licence this board ought to
nave. Unce a market keeper was
prosecuted by the to ami authorities,
at tho direction of the board of
health. The man was cleared by the
jury of businesss men called to pass
on his case, and the board got the
worst of I ho j >ko. Lately it has
been mentioned that a prosecution
was started before taking a milder
course that would have been perfect
ly successful, but no trial has ever
been called. Better results might
have bicn reached without this.

condemn valuable property without
giving the owner a chanco to carry
out !heir rules. This board has, or
is supposed to have, quite a lot of
power, but power of any kind ought
always to be carefully expended and
applied.
