Magistrate W. H. Chestnut gave

he was apprehended.
Three witnesses were sworn in the
case against him at the preliminary.
One of the witnesses was his wife,
one his daughter, the wife of Lenon
Lee, and the third was Lenon Lee
himself. The testimony was taken
after excluding all spectators from
the court room, and was of such a
nature that it cannot be printed in
a newspaper.
The Mullius Enterprise in its issue
of week before last stated that
no one at that place believes the
charges against Gerald to be true,

Peaches Well Grown.
There was at the Herald oflfico
last Mouday a half dozen young
peaches from the orchard of W, J.
Singleton at Enterprise, S. C.
They showed no ill iflfects from
the cold ani frost, in fact the same
peaches were the size of peas at the
time of the last sleet. They are a
variety native to Elorida. and Mr.
Singleton advises all persons wishing
to plant a peach that will stand
the early cold, to get a good variety
from farther south. This has been
his experience.
The friends of Henry B. Baker
will be glad to learn that he is out
again after the painful injury that
he reoeived in an accident about a
month ago. He was driving home
from church when the pole fell loose
and the mules dashed away turning
the vehicle sharply into the woods,
so that Mr* Baker was thrown sc
violently that his hip was fractured.
He is able to walk with a stick, and
was in Conway last Saturday*

A GREAT SERMON
Preached by Dr. E. O Watson at the
Methodist Church on Easter
Sunday
Easter Sunday was a great day at '
the Conway Methodist Church, Too
Sunday School had tho largest attendance
thus far this year. It
was such a delightful day that a
host of the children and grown
folks were on hand. The study of I
the Easter lesson proved very pro- I
11 table. J
Promptly at 11 o'clock the Eas- f
ter Service began. Miss Mabel
Norton and her strong chorus
choir had the music well in hand.
Miss Marie Dent, the music teacher (
at the Burroughs School, sang a
beautiful solo while the offering was
taken.
In the preacher of the hour tho
man and the occasion met splendidly,
Bev. E. O, Watson, 1). D., President
of the Horry Industrial School,
delivered one of the strongest sermons
ever heard in Conway. He
preached from Kev. 1:17-18, "I am
the first and the last; I am he that
l'vcth and was dead; and behold I
am alive forever more, Amen; and
have tbev'koys of hell and of death."
The speaker was listened to with
rapt attention by the lagest congregation
seen at tho Methodist in over
a year. About four hundred persons
were present, Dr Watson is
deservedly popular throughout
Horry County, but nowhere more so
than in Conway. Since coming to
Horry Dr Watson has preached almost
every Sunday some where in
Liiu uuuu iv, uuaiueo iiiatviug auvciui
addresses. He circulating freely
amon^ our people and everybody is
delighted to have him. One of our
citizens says: "lb is worth a whole
lot just to have Mr. Watson live
among us.
We understand that the lumber is
being cut with which to begin the
building of the Horry Industrial
School. Several acres of the campus
have been cleared olT, and tho
plans have been prepared. They
are almost ready to begin building
operations. All plans call for the
opening of the School next September.
