The aim cf the city fathers of Con.
way this year should oe to rais
money and apply it iu tne improve
merit of the public work?the streets i
and sidewalks, if nothing more.

the means.

You never know tho real value of 11
an improvement until you have
tried it and then Lave to do without '
it. We wl h that lor one year iht 0
people of Horry County might en- joy
good roads, such as they have in '
many other sections of the South,
and then when they were deprived J
of them the following year, we feel v
sure that the necessary steps, what 1
ever the cost, would be taken to
reestablish the good roads. *

Many of the newspapers are filled 1
these days with whole colums of 1
"Health Hints" and "How to Keep 4
Well". It shows the tendency of 1
the time to pay more attention to 1
things which were formerly disre- 1
warded or considered of little itn
portance in life and human affairs in 1
general. Not ODly the health of lb
individual but the public health wi'
hereafter receive closer study ant1
investigation on the part of laymen. *
*
*
The farmer will learn that it pays
to study the soil in which he plan-.his
crops and the best plan of cult - *
vation thereof in reference to the
setson and the variety of plant hf
wishes to raise. Brains were given '
to the farmer as well as to other
men for the purpose of being developed
and used to his profit and comfort
while making this earthly journey.
So use the brains you have to 1
further your success in farming as
well as use your hands to perform
the manual labor required. !

The year of grace 1913 has found
Horry County without any definite
c
and sufficient plan or means wherewith
to build to its furthest coni
fines, the modern roads that modern
progress requires. Our sister
county of Marion is ahead or us iu
this respect for she has issu^ bond; [
under an act of the Legislature, and *
for some time past the authorities t
have been engaged in the construct- *
ion of some of the best sand-cla\ j
roads in the eastern portion of this t
State. How long Horry will be be- 1
hind in this matter we are unable s
to say. We can only urge those j
who have the law making power in
their hauds to study the situation
and see that we get without delaj *
the Legislation necessary to make S
a beginning in the building of roads
in Horry along the modern lines.

Speaking of health, it is not well
to let the mind dwell too much on ^
T
the subject of one's health. This
very thing has led in some cases to (K
serious mental derangment. It is
lyl
well to remember that the human fo
machine, a delicate one in a hundred ^
different vviys; will never be able 9;
of
to run year iu and year out without an
becoming many times a little out of ^
gear in the course of twelvemonths. re
The better plan is to know what is

If it is serious consult a A
physician, or if you can right it
yourself by a little thought, attend
to it and then give it as little ser in
ous thought as possible.
