Debt is a bad thing even where the j
debtor has the present iiieaus of pay
ing it olT. Of course it is worse
where there is no present ability to
pay, but only the hope that by
means of future struggles, the means
may be raised. Tbe belter plan is
to avoid it under all circumstances,
and thus wealth will ba increased in

Christmas Day commemorates per
haps the greatest event in human
history. This is true from a religious
standpoint at least. Its purpose
is a good one except to tbase
who have perverted notions of the
way in which the day should be observed.
It is to be regretted, but it
is nevertheless true, that there are
many people in the world to day who ;
are spending io in drunkenness and
frivolity, and religious thoughts are
not the least in their minds.
