Nothing shows the progress of Horry
County more than this.
Patience is a necessary element
which must enter into everyday
walks of life in order to attain success,
By reason of peculiar temperament,
natural from birth, or afterwards
acquired, many people in the
world are lacking in patience, and as
a result they fail to stick to their
undertakings and quit in discourage
ment. Such people often begin

and still ihey quit and acknowledge
defeat before any results in their
life's work have been reached. No
successful life was ever worked out
without patience. The careers of
the greatest men we have ever had
were marked throughout by patience
and long suffering. It applies to
the man in professional life, and t<
the farmer and laboring man. None
of them can expect to accomplish
their desires in this world without
patience. It has been said that every
thing comes to him at last who is
willing to wait for it. This moans
of course that success comes to hiun
who begins his work with a definite
purpose in view, sticks at his job
with patience, and thereby he finally
attains the goal, It should be ap
plied in the schools, in fact it has to
be if the student is to get the training
that he needs to fight life's battles.
Not only does it apply to the
greater things in life, and to the sue
e.ess of life as a whole, but necessari
ly has much to do with the minor
affairs that arise. One who is sick
has to exercise patience in order to
get well. The daily task, even that
of an hour, can only be accomplished
by ihe exercise of that patience
which the particular circumstancecall
forth. On the other hand there
are some who have acquired a nervous
haste in all that they do, so
that they break down in the midst
of life unable to light life's battles
further for want of nerve. The exercise
of patience in all such cases
with steady application and correct
planning would have brought out
very different results.
