It is often the case with the town
as a whole, just as it is with the pn
ate individual, it becomes too
stingy to spend a five cent piece, in
some place where it would thereby
save a dollar. The drying need oi
better streets and sidewalks all over
tha town of Conway can be realized
by looking at the situation as one
patsss. It would not be necessarj
to bond the town to carry oa the
work of laying cement, paring some
of the places most frequently used,
and constructing sinjple and inexpensive
drains. The work was?3tart
ed soms years ngo, and thare is not
& person living in the town who is
not proud of what was done at that
tiras. Why has not this work been
going on steadily, and why it it not
{ bting carried on now? He, who
would refuse to pay a small increase
in his taxes in order to carry on
thtse and other impaovements, does
not stop to consider the great saying

By all means let the town authoritiet

There are applicants ana applicants
these days for business positions.
The large business concerns
as a general rule hare a rush of ap
plications from stenographers, bookkeepers,
salesmen and others, each
setting forth their various claim/..
What many of those applicants lack
is the quality of efficiency, and this
lack is apparent to the business mar,

Thoso who apply year after year for

realize that they msut ba efficient in
what they undertake to do, or else
they cannot expect to retain the

fact this efficiency is what every bus

In tho past experience of the
world, the people have not encourag
?d wondering bands of Gypsies,
horse traders, and others going
about with horses from place to
place and having no regular income
or occupation. There are laws on
Iht statute books restricting them.
Sueb bands frequently visit Horry
County and there is no doubt of tho
fact that they find this a better
place to remain than at a majority
of the places at which they stop.
But this should not be ao. They do
any community harm, and when a
band settles down near the corporate
limits of the to wn to trade horses,
the laws should be inforced at
ohm aed the band made to move 011.
