country, if he reads and thinks and
observes even a little, realize Ufai
slowly, but irresistibly, there is approaching
a readjustment In America;
and in this readjustment, tho
main battle cry will be a more equal
I distribution of tbo burdens and tne
rewards, of the penalties and the
premiums.
The great majority of Americana
are discontented with the status as ft
Is, and the new spirit that is breathing
over the faco of the waters of
thought and sentiment Is the genu,
ine and not the fake, brotherhood of
man?or at least a condition nearer
aproximatlng it than wo have seen
jet in this nation.
In that day of change, of evolution,
that is coming, It is to the interest
of both town and country to
stand as one. In tho linal analysis,
we are all Americans.
It is true, that a few prey upon
town and country alike. It is against
tho Interest of this few to encourage
a thorough understanding between
town and country. i
We must remember, in considering
this fact, that the city men of to-day
was the country man of yesterday;
that the country man of today Is likelv
tr> hn the eitv man of to-morrow:
that both arc of the same blood, with
the same ties and tho Identical ultimate
Interest.
I am glnd, as every IMnMnt American
should be glad, that the era of
misunderstanding between e'tv and
country 1r disappearing. Progress in
that direction means that In the ar'

problems that beset our e.omn on nie
tlon, town and country will he arrayed
together and battling Intelligently
for human rights, whether la the
' most populous city or the most
' sparsely settled country.
