administration is going to ruin tho

the food and drug act abandoned

congress I had carried on extensive

squad and found that certain sub
stances, viz., benzoic con pounds, buI
phurous compounds and sulphate ol
copper (blue stone), wer<* injurious tc
health.
The law conferred upo*> me, as chlel
of the bureau of chemistry, the dut>
of acting as a grand Jury and deter
i mining whether foodB and drugs wore
adulterated or nilsbranded. Instead
of appealing from my decisions to th*:
i courts as the law requires, tho users
