R J C Ward, of Zoan, was among those visiting the city from the country the first of this week. J J King, one of the leading citizens of Adrian section, paid Conway ft business visit last Friday. Miss Blanche Norton, of Mullins, spent several days in Conway last week visiting relatives and friends fiT B Smith, the Broker, spent several davs in Columbia the first of the week on busiuess and sight seeing. Work on tbo People's Tobacco Warehouse, so as to be readv for the opening of the season, will beg;n Monday. C B Dnsonbury, one of the leading farmers in the Port Harrelson section, spent a day in town recently on business, Now is the time for tbo candidates to make their announcement. Come out and let the people know what you want. < The Herald has furnished many farmors with strawberry checks the present season, and we are prepared to furnish still more if they will send their orders* ^ The weather wns considerably cooler the first of this week. Forlunately it. was not cool enough to frost on the young strawberries. B B Vereen, of Vina, S. O. and one of the most- successful farmers of that sectian of the county, was here for a short time last Saturday. M G Anderson was away the latter part of last. week on a business trip, visiting McClellanville, Charleston, Georgetown, and other >o oints. The showers of last week continued to fa'l on Monday of this week. In some sections of the county the showers were badly needed on the growing crops. We understand that Nance will manage the Sea Side Inn at Myrtle Beach, and that the Sunday train will be put on about the first Sunday in June. T Larry Gant, publisher of the "Whitevil'.e, N. C , News-Reporter, arrived in Conwav last Thursday night and remain^ in Conway several days on business. J W Li*tle, who is interested in large lumber interests here, was able to be out again and attend to business the latter part of last week after an illness lasting several weeks The work on the iee plant is going steadily on and the management, hopes to bo ready soon to make ice. The plant occupies a building, a portion of which is three stories bUtb. A C Thompson is the owner of a r-ew Overland car, which he purchased last week through the T B Smith Pgencv at this point It is a very neat and efficient looking vehicle of locomotion. Particular attention Is directed to the change of the advertisement of the B ink of Loris. This is a ktrong financial institution and supplies a want long needed in the development of that section of the county. However, later reports indicate that the mar ket has a upward tendency and tha1 better prices will prevail from nov on to the end of the season. W II Moore has opened a grocery store on Laurel Street in one o the new buildings recently completed by A. C. Thompson, and which is next door to the store of FT. W. Lewis. It is opposite the Horry Tobacco Warehouse Company, and is well located to catch the trade during the tobacco season. Mr. Moore will putin a soda fountain a rd serve cool drinks in connection with the grocery business. Last Monday might be called the opening of the strawberry season here, as it was the date when the regular market was started for 1912. Many of the planters had several orates on hand which they sold at the price $5 50 per crate. The condition of the crop is said to be the best in years, and with no ill luck from now on, the planters will have a record breaking year in the strawberry business. Notice of Discharge.
