Death of K. II. Anderson.
The town was shocked last Satur
lay morning Dy the accidental kill
iojUf of Mr R H Anderson, an em.,
ployee of Conway Lumber Compa
riy. He Was engaged in the moving
or unloading of trucks loaded with
green lumber. The trucks were arranged
on inclined planes, so that
gravity aided in moving them, as
soon as ro.'eised from bars of wooa
that held them in position One
of the stays !rom one of the trues
b came unfastened and moved qui. ker
man be had expected, owing pernaps
to the toppling of the load on
the truck, and the entire mass fed
o.4 him before he could get out of the
waj, and be was instantly killed.
Toe accident occurred after tie
hands had all gone to work una nnu
been at work (or some hours Mr.
Anderson had bsen in the em. 1 y of
the company for many years, Some
weeks ago while at work at the plant
he had the misfortune to injure one
of his hands and from this he v as
unable to work for some time. He
had just recovered from the former
injury and gone baek to his work
when he was killed.
He leaves, besides bis widow, four
sons, R. B. Anderson, John Anderson,
G, Dulton Anderson, and Corbet
Anderson, and one brother, John
Anderson. He was about 02 years
of age.
The interment took place on Sunday
in the afternoon at a family
burying ground on upper Kingston
Lake. A large crowd of sympathetic
friends attended the funeral
services, which were conducted by
the Rev. A. S. Doak of the Presbyterian
church.
Toddville Tidings.
Tot greatest event that has happened
in our little town in quite
awhile was an entertainmout given
at the Toddville School Auditorium
on Tuesday night, 12th iusfc,
under the management of Miss Mary
Hamilton who was ably assisted
by Mrs. A M Dusenbury and Mi?s
Annabel ^Hamilton. The Auditorium
and main school building was
literally packed before the eyercises
began.
Cuuservative estimates places the
crowd at about 450 and many are of
the opinion that we had even more.
The program was rendered without
a single hitch and judging from the
applause wai very much enjoyed by
the large audience. Perhaps the
moat attractive feature was the floral
drill by twelve beautiful girls
each carrying a large wreath of fern
and flowers which was certainiy
pleasing to the eye, and the marriage
of "LicK Skillet" and "Sallie
Skinner" came in for a fuL share
of praise. The bridal party was
composed of ten very small children
and just before the little bridal party
entered "Melody of Love" was
sung by Miss Annabel Hamilton,
and as the music of Mendleshons
march was sounded the little party
entered and took their places. Last
of all came the bride, Little Miss
Bessie Dusenbury leaning on the
arm of the groom, Master Harmon
Hucks.
The bride wore a gown of white organdy
with trimmings of lace and
ribbons and carried a bouquet of
ferns and naroisus, The groom was
in otfonin(r n.t tir?
I.* .
Fun in a photograph gallery was
given much applause, and tihe "amrt
atiug a grander" seemed 10 ammo
the crowd. Trie many tableaux were
very interesting aud woro ve y much
appreciated by audience.

The Carolina Baptist Association
Under way
MET AT HTGKORY GROVE
This is the New Association Composing:
the Churches Which Seceded From
the Waccamaw Association Last Year
Officers Elected Who Have Entered
Upon the Discharge of their Duties.
I promised to write you about the
otloo club when I learned more
about the rules.
More attention will be givqn this
year to the bo} s Corn Club work
than the cotton because its national
Corn Show is to be in Columbia
next January
The rules for'the Corn Club a~o
the same as before
Tne goverment allows you to take
any acre of corn without the cotton,
but if you take the cotton you are
required to take the corn also
1 have succeeded in getting the
guano companies who offered guano
to the Corn Club to offer the same
amount to the Cotton Club
I am anxious to know how many
boys can m ike money enough on
one acre to start up a nice little
bank account and pay his way in
in school a year. Perhaps some boy
may be brought to see tbat he can
be a groat man and will work harder
each year,
I believe that not all but some of
the best talent in the school is represented
in the corn and cotton
clubs.
Can Horry some time in the future
got a County Superintendent from
among its corn and cotton clubs?
Why not'begin to get ready boys?
There are about sixty schools in
the county teaching Algebra twenty
five or thirty teaching the Latin
Grammars and several teaching the
Latin readers and Geometry, The
number of schools teaching the
higher branches will increase each
year. It is necessary for you to
know these subjects before you can
superintend schools which teach
tVem.
T trv to encourage you boys to
grow two bales of cotton or two
bushels of corn where one grew before
but I hope to have the pleasure
sometime in the future of encouraging
you to do a great educational
work. Wonder who will be the first
boy to get ready?
The corn and cotton Clubs besides
bringing about a radical change in
the plan of farming will influence
the farmers to organize agricultural
and live stock clubs and meet in
township and county meetings to
discuss the best ways to prepare
land, to use guano, to cultivate
crops and to watch crops, etc.

Archie McCray, a young negro,
attempted to jumy aboard the Conwav
Coast & Western train, as it
was passing along Main Street, last
Tuesday evening, and in tho attempt,
he missed his hold, and fell
under the wheels of the car. and his
left leg was crushed and mangled
so that it had to oe amputated above
the knee, A piece af bone from the
limb nearly a foot long was broken
out of the member and left in the
street where the accident occurred.
It was only a few steps to the office
of Or J S Dusen bury the railroad
physician, and the boy was hastily
taken there by his companions.
Commercial fertilizers are a great
help to the farmer, but he should by
no means purchase more of it than
he can use with prolit. Some are
too apt to buy more than thoirlands
and facilities will warrant, and in
such cases there is generally disaster
in the Fall, when paying up time
comes,
