Drainage Progress.
The drainage district which it is ,
proposed to form in Dog Bluff town- ,
ship, is now well under way so far i
f as the necessary legal proceedings i
are concerned, as the Clerk of the 1
Court, W. L. Bryan. Esq., has sent ;
out the summons to be served on
those wno refused to sign the petition
asking for the district. The ,
first day of February has been fixed
as the return day of the summons,
and those who were served have been
given the usual time to file their an swers,
if any they have, to the proDosed
district. Oi Feb. 1st. the
Clerk will hear any of these answer
that may be filed, and other proceedings
will be gone into as provided
by the recent act of the Legislature.
One of the things that will
soon have to be done is the appointment
of an engineer to lay out the
proposed work and estimate its
probable cost,
There is another district on foot
in Simpson Creek township, and
many names have already been
sigaed to the petition i for it, and
this petition will no doubt be filed
in the near future.

One of the wonders of the tour was
the showing of three Metz oars. This
little $405 runabout, made in Waltham,
while penalized on the time schedule,
gave a fine account of themselves, living
up on many of the days to the time
sat by the big cars.
C. H. Metz, the manufacturer, was
congratulated on all sides at Jacksonville.
Many thought that the Metz
ruaabouU; the highest cars in the tour
and the lowest in price, would be unable
to negotiate the sandy roads of this
State, and when t.^ey showed up it caused
no /title surprise.
This Boston outfit has been one continual
surp.ise fi-un the start First of

caravan ascended the Cumberland mountains
from Natural Bridge to Roanoke,
Va.. the Metz team was the only one of

minutes allowed because of a blockade
in the road. The Metz cars were inside
of their schedule without this extension

Uliddentour has passed into history and
compared to previous ones the run just
finished here wiil here will make a favorable
comparison with the others.
When it started from New York. Oct. 14.
on its 1450 inilesto this ciiy, there were
many who said It would not be anything
more than a pleasure ride; that it was
not going to be a real test of trie cars;
that everyone would finish with a clean'
score.
Anyone who has followed the account!
of the trip knows now that there was
plenty hard work to It; that the cars
were given a most severe test; that the
drivers were forced to use thoir best endeavors
to prevent penalization and as
a contest it ranked well with Its prede

the greater number of entrants this year
were what might be called novices as far
as competing in a GUdden tour are concerned,
because they were owners in
stead of factory men; drivers who were
in the habit of stopping when and where
tboy pleased in the past.
They could not do this in the tour,
however, and that so many of thera continued
through to the ' finish shows the
true type of sportsmanship developed in
motoring, because some of them could
just as well have dropped out when near
home had they cared to do so. An
now that it is ail over, I lannrt ond my

to the cars.
