Barker is Confronted With New Obstacles, But He is Not Discouraged and Hopes to be Again Doing Business at the Same Old Stand. A motion to set aside an attachment issued by the Bank of Horry against the New York Racket Store Company, was argued at Marion before Judge Ceo. F. Prince on November 22od, Uobt. B, Scarborough represented the plaint iff. and H. H, Woodward, the defense. Judge Prince took about weeks to consider the matter, but he filed his order on last Friday vacating the warrent of attachment. Althougn the warrant has been vacated; and the store might be opened in so far as that is concerned, yet there stili remains trouble for thia concern. While all }f the above has been taking place, various creditors have obtained judgments against the corporation, and executions have been issued to the sheriff, and he has levied under them, and at last accounts he wa9 hrklrlinrr th? nf (/finds and flX v?w ~ ? - r-, turns under these. Ttiere are also two mortgages against the stock of goods, one for $1000,00. held by S. J, Lewis and the other a second mortgage held by G. B. Jenkins for the sulu 700,00 and interest. It would be hard to tell just now what turn affairs may take in regard to this business, which has now been closed up under these legal proceedings for many weeks. C E Barker, who took charge of the business some mouths ago when W. P, Vick sold ouf, has been trying his best to get the concern on its feet, and he paid instalments on the indebtedness of i he concern right up to the ime when ho was closed by the warrant nf attachment issued by the Bank of Horry. The stock in the store with the fixtures inventoried, according to the inventory taken by ohe sheriff nearly the sum of $6000, 00. Ir. is a large stock to turn lose At cost at any time in a small town the size of Conway. Fine Yield of Corn. A verv fine yield of corn is reported from Justice, this being the crop of W K Jones, one of the most progressive farmers of the county. He had the best side of the cut measured by Messrs John D >yle, J Smith and George Elvis, and they made it 113 1-3 bushels to the acre. There were live acres in the piece that was fine, and at least those who measured the corn feel satisfied that it would have averaged at least one hundred bushels to the piece. This corn was raised with less than one thousand pounds of fertilizers to the acre. This yield would be hard to beat any where in this State, and it shows what can be done with our Horry soils, when farming is done as it should be. Tnhacoo News from Chatham. Va. Teachers and Patrons: Prof W K Tate, Supervisor of Rural Sv hoo:s, is expecting to come to this county on Wednesday, December 20th. He will lecture at the Ebentzar school house Wednesday night, December 20th; Warn pee, Thursday night, December 21st, and Good Hope school house, Friday night, December 22nd. He will also stop at schools between these places if time permits. I Saturday, December 22nd, Prof Tate will be in Conwayaud he hopes to meet the trustees and teachers of the county. This is his greatest reason for coming to the county to meet the trustees and teachers of the county and talk over live educational subjects. ( lemson Extension Work?Article L1X. The groin d untreated phosphate rock or 'II jabs" is sometimes used as a fertilizer and we receive inquires from time to time regarding it. This article is written to answer such inquiries. VVnon it spreads through the soil and comes in contact with certain bases present there, such as lime, iron and aluminum, the phosporic acid is reconverted into a less soluble form, but it is spread, in a thin film, over soil grain and a great surface is exposed for t he feeding roots of plant9 to get their food. Now, in the case of the "floats" a very fine mechanical grinding is absolutely necessary in order that there may ho as much surface exposed as possible by mechanical means to overcome as nearly as possible the lack of chemical treatment. If you intend buying "floats" Specify tliat ninety per cent shall pass through a seive one hundred meshes to the inch and if possible got ground rock that has not been burned, for the burning would tend to make that portion of the phosphorus that it is tombiued with iron and aluminum less easily soluble. At best "floats" is very soluble and we advise its use in only two cases:?Spread in the stables or cattle sheds at the rate of about 100 lbs to the ton of manure. This should be done at intervals so that the acids of the manure may come iuto contact with the "Floats" and in a measure decompose it. The second case is where the soil is well supplied with dec.-.ying organic matter. This decaying organic matter is constantly liberating carbonic acid which is absorbed by the soil water and is our strongest natural solvent When 1 floats" is applied to such a soil of thrt phosphorus becomes available Ttio price per pound of phosphorus in "floats" is about one tiiird that of a pound of available phosphorus in acid nhosohate. but it must be borne in uiind that it is in an insoluble form and should only be used under such conditions that at least onethird will become available. 1\ W.
